This text aims to present a possibility of reading the book Contos de enganar a morte (2003), by Ricardo Azevedo, which considers the role of the reader and hybrid language, resulting from the union of two discourses: literary and popular tradition. In order to achieve the objective, it is intended to present a reflection based on the aesthetics of reception on what promotes pleasure in reading and what elements determine the role of the implicit reader. In this text, the hypothesis is formulated that the writer's strategy to recover the culture, with the presentation of short stories and comics, taken from the popular imagination, which allows the reader to make contact with an attractive and playful text, and makes it possible to expand previous knowledge and concepts, through the use of memory. The analysis of this work is based on the consideration that literary reading can act as a factor to value the identity of the young reader, since through it, he is able to raise his self-esteem, he is recognized as heir of a cultural heritage, and also serves as an instrument to reflect on issues that disturb and frighten children, such as death. Precisely for this reason the literary text acts as an instrument of personal emancipation and formation of the reader.en
