Abstract
Abstract (english)
We propose, to this research, under the light of the Dialogic and Discursive Approach in language acquisition (Volóchinov, 2017; Bakhtin, 2013, 2016, Vygotsky, 1934, Bruner, 2007, Del Ré et al., 2006, 2010, 2014a, 2014b; Del Ré, Orvig, 2021), to analyse, by the use of negation (Bolinger, 1983; Balog, Brentari, 2008; Beaupoil-Hourdel, 2015; Vasconcelos, Scarpa, Dodane, 2019; Ducrot, 1981, 1987; Anscombre & Ducrot, 1976; Givón, 1978; Moeschler, 1992, Nølke, 2017), the operation mode of the argumentative productions and strategies of two children, A. (girl, french) and S. (girl, brazilian), from 2 years and 1 month to 3 years and 3 months old, in familiar contexts. Following these conceptions, we seek to study how the individual’s socio-historical and cultural reality (Salazar, 2023; Nelson, 1981, 2007; Rogoff et al., 2018; Sueb, Haranti, Susanti, 2023) influence their linguistic and discursive choices and the strategies they use to argue (Leitão, 1999, 2003, 2007a, 2007b; Leitão, Banks-Leite, 2006; Leitão, Ferreira, 2006; Leitão, Vieira, 2017, 2018) and deny. The argumentative discourse is composed by a threefold unity that comprehends “argument”, “counter-argument” and “response”, from which we observe the chaining of utterances in the scenes, during the explicit opposition between stances, noticing the way the negation positioning markers are present, if through prototypical elements, particular to negation, or through non-prototypical ones, whose original function is not to negate, but can be embedded with its meaning. To discuss the Argumentation and the Negation into the children’s language productions, we chose A. and S. data, produced during natural interaction contexts, recorded in MOV format and transcribed through the Clan software, CHAT rules (Mac Whinney, 2000). This tool allows a great detail level for the children’s utterances transcription, in order to analyse the multimodal elements mobilized by the subjects to build the argumentative utterances where the negation - and its senses - is present. The multimodality comprehends the following elements: verbals (lexical, syntactic and construction - stylistic - schemes), gestures, actionals, vocals and intonationals (focalization stress) (Ono & Thompson, 1995; Thompson, Couper-Kuhlen, 2005; Fried & Östman, 2004; Gonçalvez, 1999; Ferré, 2003; Nowakowska et al., 2021; Martel et al., 2023; Dodane et al., 2021; Cavalcante, 1994, 2018; Cavalcante, Brandão, 2012; De Almeida, Cavalcante, 2017; McNeill, 2002; Cosnier, 2000; Boutet, 2018), and formats (Bruner, 1982, 1985, 2007). Together with it, we make use of analysis categories - some resumed from previous researches (Leitão, 2007; Vieira, 2011; Vasconcelos, 2017; Beaupoil-Horudel, 2017; Ricci, 2020) - to observe the functioning of A.’s and S.’s argumentative discourses, with negation. Stem from this theoretical and methodological input and from the data analysed, we verify that children take up positions in and through discourse since young age, even before the 2 years, and, in their argumentative utterances, the negation can take part in different forms, via prototypical elements (e.g.: negation adverbs “não”, “non”, “pas”, gesture headshake and shout) or in a less marked way, with non-prototypical elements, as actions, intonation, syntactic and discursive constructions (e.g.: theme displacement and formats). To defend a point of view, the two children use different linguistic and discursive strategies, which are in development, and the multimodal elements and stylistic resources suffer diversification and complexification.
