Abstract

This paper is an analysis based on the functional approach of the descriptive translation studies using the model of Jose Lambert and Van Gorp (1985) on the linguistic variations present in the poem Jabberwocky written by Lewis Carroll in Through the looking Glass and what Alice has found there (1871). Three translations were chosen: Monteiro Lobato (1967- 3rd edition), Augusto de Campos (1980) and Alexandre Barbosa de Souza (2015). The micro-analysis confirmed the use of significant strategies such as the use of valises by the translators, as well as the rhymes and sounds following the style presented in the source text.
