The general objective of this study was to understand high school students’ conceptions of affectivity in the teaching and learning process. The specific objectives were to describe their perceptions of affectivity, examine how they recognize it within their educational experiences, and identify positive and negative feelings associated with their schooling. The research was grounded in theoretical frameworks developed by Henri Wallon, Jean Piaget, and Lev Vygotsky, as well as in contemporary studies addressing holistic education and affective dimensions. It is based on the assumption that affectivity and cognition are inseparable in human development and that the relationships established within the school context significantly influence students’ engagement and learning. The study adopted a qualitative approach and was conducted with 52 third-year high school students from a private school located in the municipality of Santa Bárbara d’Oeste. Data analysis was carried out using Content Analysis, as systematized by Bardin. In parallel, the study included a literature review conducted through the CAPES Periodicals Portal, focusing on research that connects affectivity and the field of education, as well as an analysis of the presence of affectivity in official Brazilian educational documents. The results indicated that students associate affectivity with motivation, bonding with teachers, a sense of belonging, and interest in school subjects. They emphasized that pedagogical relationships characterized by empathy, dialogue, and respect foster learning, whereas authoritarian or distant interactions may lead to demotivation, insecurity, and academic difficulties.
