A saúde pública é discutida há muito tempo, visando a qualidade de vida e bem-estar humano. Para que isso seja tangível, é necessário o equilíbrio entre sociedade, meio ambiente e animais, uma vez que vivemos em um ecossistema e sofremos influência do meio. Esse fator pode ser resumido pelo termo “One Health”, ou Saúde Única, onde a qualidade de um dos três pilares, leva à consequências no restante. Tendo em vista o conhecido, a Medicina Veterinária Preventiva agrega à saúde humana, uma vez que os estudos da área podem fortalecer o bem-estar da sociedade. Estes podem ser através de diversos fatores como controle de zoonoses, estudos epidêmicos, garantia de qualidade de produtos para consumo e, principalmente, quando relacionados ao meio ambiente. Para isso, se fez necessária a criação da Vigilância Ambiental em Saúde, órgão instaurado no Brasil pelo Ministério da Saúde no ano de 2000, visando a identificação de medidas de prevenção e controle de fatores de riscos ambientais correlacionadas às doenças ou outros danos à saúde.
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo esclarecer a função do médico veterinário na saúde pública, o qual pode ser resumido na atuação em prevenção e controle, na transmissão de conhecimentos a população com fins educativos e realizar estudos nesta esfera.
Abstract (english)
Public Health has been discussed for a long time, aiming at quality of life and human welfare. For this to be tangible, it is necessary to have a balance between society, environment, and animals, whereas we live in an ecosystem under the influence of everything in our surroundings. This factor can be summarized by the term "One Health", where the quality of one of the three pillars leads to consequences in the rest. In view of what is known, the Preventive Veterinary Medicine adds to human health, once the studies of the area can strengthen the welfare of society, these can be through various factors such as zoonosis control, epidemic studies, quality assurance of products for consumption and especially when related to the environment. For this, it was necessary to create the Environmental Health Surveillance, an agency established in Brazil by the Ministry of Health in 2000, aiming at the identification of prevention and control measures of environmental risk factors correlated to diseases or other health damages.
The present work has as objective to clarify the function of the Veterinarian in Public Health, which can be summarized in the acting in prevention and control, in the transmission of knowledge to the population with educative ends and to accomplish studies in this sphere.
