Um estudo sobre as criaturas fantásticas no universo mágico de Harry Potter: diálogos mitológicos em Animais Fantásticos e Onde Habitam

O presente estudo analisa a construção do universo mágico de J.K. Rowling, com foco na obra Animais Fantásticos e Onde Habitam, sob a perspectiva da literatura fantástica e da tradição dos bestiários. Investiga-se como a autora estabelece um diálogo intertextual entre o mundo contemporâneo e a herança milenar dos bestiários medievais, particularmente no que tange à catalogação e à atribuição de significados a criaturas míticas. O objetivo central reside em identificar as referências mitológicas e folclóricas presentes no compêndio de Newt Scamander, comparando as descrições literárias de Rowling com suas fontes originais. Para tanto, discute-se as estratégias de apropriação, recontextualização e reinterpretação empregadas na narrativa para conferir verossimilhança e profundidade ao mundo secundário da saga. A fundamentação teórica ancora-se nos conceitos de intertextualidade e na Teoria dos Esquemas, conforme as proposições de Robert de Beaugrande e Jessica Mason, visando compreender o papel da memória e do repertório cultural do leitor na recepção da obra. A metodologia adotada consiste em uma análise comparativa e qualitativa, confrontando o bestiário ficcional com a tradição do Physiologus e outros registros históricos. A estrutura do trabalho organiza-se em cinco capítulos que percorrem desde os fundamentos cognitivos da leitura e a gênese dos bestiários medievais até a análise detalhada das criaturas e o impacto da intertextualidade na coesão do universo de Harry Potter. Conclui-se que o uso de referências arquetípicas e a reinterpretação de mitos clássicos são elementos determinantes para a consolidação da memória literária e para a longevidade do fenômeno cultural analisado.

This study analyzes the construction of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world, focusing on the work Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them from the perspective of fantasy literature and the tradition of bestiaries. It investigates how the author establishes an intertextual dialogue between the contemporary world and the thousand-year-old heritage of medieval bestiaries, particularly regarding the cataloging and attribution of meanings to mythical creatures. The central objective is to identify the mythological and folkloric references present in Newt Scamander's compendium, comparing Rowling's literary descriptions with their original sources. To this end, the strategies of appropriation, recontextualization, and reinterpretation employed in the narrative are discussed to provide verisimilitude and depth to the saga's secondary world. The theoretical framework is anchored in the concepts of intertextuality and Schema Theory, as proposed by Robert de Beaugrande and Jessica Mason, aiming to understand the role of memory and the reader's cultural repertoire in the reception of the work. The adopted methodology consists of a comparative and qualitative analysis, confronting the fictional bestiary with the tradition of the Physiologus and other historical records. The structure of the research is organized into five chapters that range from the cognitive foundations of reading and the genesis of medieval bestiaries to the detailed analysis of the creatures and the impact of intertextuality on the cohesion of the Harry Potter universe. It is concluded that the use of archetypal references and the reinterpretation of classical myths are determining elements for the consolidation of literary memory and for the longevity of the analyzed cultural phenomenon.
