Abstract

This paper highlights three different interrelations between Literature and History: a) the one that subordinates literary art to the patterns of history as a kind of scientific discourse (historiography); b) the one that understands literature as an autonomic reality, therefore, as a temporal constructed discourse; c) the one that perceives literature as a way to represent the historical world. This study focuses on the third kind of interrelation, basing its arguments on the late twentieth-century novel Os dias do demonio, written by Roberto Gomes. This analysis shows some of the procedures used by the author to transform historical world data into fictional data and proposes that, besides the historicity of fictional representation, the text, in its form (the plot and the multiple perspectives under the same focus) homologates the contemporary profound structure.
