THE EXCURSION IN THE TEACHING OF GEOGRAPHY (1936), BY JOÃO DIAS DA SILVEIRA

Abstract

The documentary and bibliographic research emphasizes the importance of excursions in the teaching of Geography through the eyes of Professor João Dias da Silveira (1913-1973). Considered a consecrated university authority of his time, he became the first director of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of the UNESP Campus in Rio Claro. The research aims to detail the characteristics of the geographic excursion teaching technique proposed by João Dias da Silveira, in 1936; reinforce João Dias da Silveira's contribution to the debate on the teaching of Geography in the context of Escola Nova; and to verify the relevance of João Dias da Silveira's research in the experience of students at ETEC Ourinhos in conjunction with the “Nós Propomos!” Project.
