Educação ambiental em zoológicos: uma comparação do perfil de visitas agendadas no Parque Zoológico Municipal de Bauru antes e após o período de isolamento da pandemia de covid-19.

Abstract

A Educação Ambiental é um dos principais pilares de atuação dos zoológicos e é alvo de investigação por diversos autores. A pandemia de covid-19 afetou de diversas formas a nossa sociedade, inclusive no funcionamento dos zoológicos e seu papel educativo. Neste sentido, para entender como a pandemia pode ter afetado o Parque Zoológico Municipal de Bauru, este trabalho realizou uma comparação do perfil de visitas agendadas, comparando os períodos antes e após a pandemia de covid-19. O objetivo foi investigar os possíveis impactos causados pela pandemia nas visitas agendadas, bem como analisar o perfil das visitas em ambos os períodos. A investigação foi feita a partir de dados das visitas realizadas em 2019 e 2022, que foram fornecidos pelo zoológico, e de entrevistas realizadas com os sete funcionários responsáveis pelo setor de Educação Ambiental do zoológico: as duas biólogas responsáveis pelo setor e cinco estagiários. As análises indicaram um aumento no número total de alunos visitantes após o período de pandemia e todos os entrevistados apontaram ter notado alguma mudança na sua forma de realizar a recepção de visitas, como a necessidade de contratar voluntários para auxiliar na recepção nos períodos de maior volume de visitas. Além disso, não houve mudança em relação à intenção das escolas com as visitas. Por fim, este trabalho sugeriu que a pandemia causou impactos nas visitas agendadas, como um aumento na quantidade total de alunos e mudanças na logística de recepção das visitas. Para trabalhos futuros, sugere-se um maior período de observação de dados para um maior aprofundamento dos resultados.

Environmental Education is one of the main pillars of zoos and is the subject of investigation by several authors. The covid-19 pandemic has affected our society in different ways, including the functioning of zoos and their educational role. Therefore, to understand how the pandemic may have affected the Parque Zoológico Municipal de Bauru, this work sought to compare the profile of the scheduled visits, comparing the periods before and after the covid-19 pandemic. Its aim was to investigate the possible impacts caused by the pandemic on the scheduled visits, as well as to analyze the profile of the visits in both periods. The investigation was carried out using data regarding the visit performed in 2019 and 2022, which were provided by the zoo and interviews performed with the seven employees responsible for the Environmental Section of the zoo: the two biologists responsible for the sector and five interns. It was observed that, through the analysis, an increase of the total number of the visiting students after the pandemic period and all interviewees pointed out noticing changes in their way of receiving visits, such as the need to hire volunteers to assist with reception during periods of higher volume of visits. Besides that, there was no clear change in the intention of the schools with their visits. Finally, this work suggested that the pandemic caused impacts on scheduled visits, such as an increase in the total number of students and changes in the logistics of receiving visits. For future work, longer data is suggested for a deeper analysis of the results.
