Abstract

The text aims to discuss child labor, seeking elements which contribute to the broadening of the debate and the separation of propositions that prevent the activation of actions consistent with the needs of children and adolescents in this condition. Initially, theoretical positions are presented which clash with hegemonic discussions about forms of eradication. Afterwards, work conditions in the current social model and its implications on the reality of children and adolescents are discussed. Finally, we present some dialogues between social programs and the formal schooling processes for working children. It is pointed out that child labor is linked to structural issues, provident mainly from the model which prevails in inequality. Thus, the discourse for eradicating all its forms cannot be sustained, especially when it is understood that the current model of social organization leads many children and teenagers to need work.
