Aspectos do interesse pela leitura literária: uma análise documental e ficcional dos escritos de Machado de Assis para O Cruzeiro (1878)

Abstract

Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo mapear e analisar aspectos do interesse pela leitura literária, no Rio de Janeiro do final dos anos 1870, a partir das relações de aproximação e distanciamento entre os conteúdos divulgados pelo jornal O Cruzeiro e aqueles escritos por Machado de Assis em tal suporte. Partiremos do seguinte problema: como os escritos machadianos de 1878, em relação com alguns conteúdos das páginas jornalísticas do Jornal O Cruzeiro, que lhes serviam como suporte, concebia, documental e ficcionalmente, o interesse pela leitura literária do Oitocentos brasileiro e dialogava com seus leitores? Partimos da hipótese de que esses textos machadianos funcionavam como narrativas de passagem em que o leitor era preparado para provar de outras fontes de leitura, testando e formando o seu interesse pela leitura literária. Pretendemos, ainda, refletir acerca das relações entre literatura, jornalismo, ficção e história, tendo como recorte condutor a questão da recepção/leitura, tudo isso por meio da investigação bibliográfica e documental, análise das narrativas, além da reflexão a partir de textos críticos e teóricos que versam sobre a proposta em questão. Para tanto, esta pesquisa fundamentar-se-á em estudos sobre as narrativas de Machado de Assis (1878), o receptor/leitor, a recepção/leitura, o Oitocentos brasileiro e, a todo instante, recorrer-se-á aos estudos sobre o leitor implícito de Wolfgang Iser (1999), o leitor modelo de Umberto Eco (1986), o público indicado por Pierre Bourdieu (2007), aos horizontes de expectativas organizados por Robert Jauss (2002), às reflexões históricas sobre o leitor expostas por Roger Chartier (1998), aos leitores de Machado de Assis pontuados por Hélio Guimarães (2004), à visão crítica sobre “Notas semanais” sugerida por John Gledson (2008) e Lúcia Granja (2008), ao público leitor do dezenove brasileiro citado por Nelson Werneck Sodré (2004), entre outros.

This research aims to map and analyze aspects of interest in literary´s reading in Rio de Janeiro at the end of the 1870´s, based on the relations of approximation and distance between the contents published by the newspaper” O Cruzeiro” and those of the series of Machado´s (Machadianas) chronicles "Notas Semanais". We will start from the following problem: like the Machado writings of 1878, in relation to some contents of the newspaper pages of the newspaper O Cruzeiro, that served as support, conceived, documentary and fictionally, the interest for the literary reading of the Brazilian Eighteenth period and these dialogued with your readers? We start with the hypothesis that these Machado texts functioned as narratives of passage in which the reader was prepared to prove other sources of reading, testing and forming his interest in literary reading. This series of Machado journalistic narratives was written in 1878 in the newspaper O Cruzeiro, a year that occupies a place of transition between the creation of Iaiá Garcia and Machadian texts very difficult to class that came before the chronicles. We also intend to reflect on the relations between literature, journalism, fiction and history, having as a main direction the issue of reception /reading, the whole work was made essencialy through bibliographical and documentary research, narrative´s analysis , and reflection from critical texts and theorists who deal with the proposal in question. For getting this objective, this research will be based on studies on the narratives of Machado de Assis (1878), the receiver / reader, the reception / reading, the Eighth Brazilian period and, during all the research, studies on the implicit reader of Wolfgang Iser (1999), the model reader of Umberto Eco (1986), the audience indicated by Pierre Bourdieu (2007), the horizons of expectations organized by Robert Jauss (2002), the historical reflections on the reader by Roger Chartier (1998), Machado de Assis ´s readers (Hélio Guimarães, 2004), the critical view on "Notas Semanais" suggested by John Gledson(2008) and Lúcia Granja (2008), the readership of the nineteenth Brazilian century cited by Nelson Werneck Sodré (2004), among others.
