Resumo
The human body has several natural defence mechanisms to protect against the development and progression of cancer. These host defences are essential for preventing the growth of cancer cells and maintaining overall health. Immune cells can recognise abnormal proteins or antigens on the surface of cancer cells, triggering an immune response to target and destroy them. However, these host defences are vital in preventing cancer but are not always infallible. This chapter discusses the principles of normal host defence mechanisms against cancer and describes the different types of cells involved in these process.
