"Rio Claro estará no Brasil?" : perseguição, preconceito, exclusão e violência a imigrantes e descendentes de alemães, italianos e japoneses em Rio Claro-SP durante as guerras mundiais

A tese trata-se da continuação e desdobramento da dissertação "Uma época de restrições e impedimentos: Alemães e descendentes em Rio Claro - SP na 1ª metade do século XX (1914-1945)" de 2019. Dito isto, a pesquisa analisa a perseguição às etnias alemã, italiana e japonesa, no município de Rio Claro - SP, durante as guerras mundiais (1914-1945), mas situando-a historicamente, entre o século XIX e o pós 1945. Nossos recortes se basearam nas questões étnicas e municipais, com outros elementos subordinados a tais quesitos. Historicamente, a imigração ao Brasil foi considerada como incentivadora à vinda de imigrantes. Contudo, trazemos outro foco: o da violência etnocultural. Tal problemática impeliu-nos a investigar fontes ligadas à perseguição, além de memórias silenciadas. Objetivamos explicar a criminalização da cultura dos imigrantes, através do exame das articulações entre imprensa, intelectualidade e repressão política. Buscamos evidenciar as implicações da perseguição nos silenciamentos familiares e documentais, esperando que o trabalho auxilie as etnias a resgatar elementos históricos, identitários e culturais. Nossa análise se concentrou na hemeroteca do Arquivo Público e Histórico de Rio Claro; mas utilizamos também entrevistas, atas, discursos políticos, produções radiofônicas e cinematográficas. A análise se baseou em metodologia multidisciplinar, enfocando o silenciamento e seus resquícios documentais, para investigar a questão étnica da escala local ao global. Com isso, constatamos o planejamento dos ataques na Primeira Guerra, que atingiram instituições simbólicas, residências e comércios. Na Segunda Guerra, atestamos a cooperação entre a ditadura varguista e o ideal assimilacionista na criminalização e degradação da cultura imigrante. A análise documental cruzada nos permitiu sustentar que o silenciamento é resultado da união entre poder estatal, apoio intelectual e coerção cultural. A pesquisa contribuiu com uma nova visão sobre os grupos étnicos, demonstrando que a análise das violências etnoculturais sofridas é fundamental para entender essas comunidades.

This thesis is a continuation and expansion of the dissertation "An Era of Restrictions and Impediments: Germans and Descendants in Rio Claro - SP in the First Half of the 20th Century (1914-1945)" from 2019. That said, the research analyzes the persecution of German, Italian, and Japanese ethnic groups in the municipality of Rio Claro - SP during the World Wars (1914-1945), but situating it historically between the 19th century and the post-1945 period. Our focus is based on ethnic and municipal issues, with other elements subordinated to these aspects. Historically, immigration to Brazil has been considered an incentive for the arrival of immigrants. However, we bring another focus: that of ethnocultural violence. This problem compelled us to investigate sources linked to the persecution, as well as silenced memories. We aim to explain the criminalization of immigrant culture through an examination of the connections between the press, intellectuals, and political repression. We seek to highlight the implications of persecution in familial and documentary silences, hoping that this work will help ethnic groups recover historical, identity-related and cultural elements. Our analysis focused on the newspaper archive of the Public and Historical Archive of Rio Claro; however, we also used interviews, minutes, political speeches, radio and film productions. The analysis was based on a multidisciplinary methodology, focusing on silencing and its documentary remnants, to investigate the ethnic issue from the local to the global scale. With this, we observed the planning of attacks in the First World War, which targeted symbolic institutions, residences, and businesses. In the Second World War, we attested to the cooperation between the Vargas dictatorship and the assimilationist ideal in the criminalization and degradation of immigrant culture. The cross-documentary analysis allowed us to argue that silencing is the result of the union between state power, intellectual support and cultural coercion. The research contributed a new perspective on ethnic groups, demonstrating that analyzing the ethnocultural violence they have suffered is fundamental to understanding these communities.
