Abstract
This study evaluated the performance of three optimization techniques based on swarm algorithms to tune supplementary controller parameters (Power Systems Stabilizers and Generalized Unified Power Flow Controller with Power Oscillation Damping). These controllers are added to the test system in order to introduce damping to low frequency oscillation modes. The Power Sensitivity Model is used to model the test system. The symmetrical system two-area was used in the simulations, and the results presented by the three approaches, Particle Swarm Optimization, Bacterial Foraging Optimization and Bacterial Foraging Optimization oriented by Particle Swarm Optimization, pointed superior performance of the first compared the last two.
