Conhecimento de familiares de pacientes críticos acerca da Injúria Renal Aguda

Abstract

Introdução: A Injúria Renal Aguda (IRA) é comum em pacientes críticos e é definida como uma redução súbita da função renal, muitas vezes necessitando de terapias de Suporte Renal Agudo. Por apresentar alta prevalência e elevada mortalidade em UTIs, o entendimento da doença e do tratamento torna-se essencial. O conhecimento dos familiares favorece participação ativa no cuidado, melhora a comunicação, reduz ansiedade e fortalece a confiança na equipe, sendo fundamental para decisões alinhadas às necessidades do paciente. Objetivo: Verificar o conhecimento de familiares de pacientes críticos acerca da IRA dialítica. Método: Trata-se de um estudo observacional, descritivo e prospectivo, elaborado segundo as normas do enunciado Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology (STROBE), realizado nas salas de espera das UTI’s do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu (HCFMB) entre os meses de setembro de 2024 a dezembro de 2025. Teve como participantes familiares de pacientes internados submetidos a tratamento dialítico. Resultados: Foram incluídos 26 pacientes no estudo, majoritariamente homens, idosos e com vários dias de internação em UTI. A maioria utilizou drogas vasoativas, suporte ventilatório invasivo e realizou hemodiálise por mais de três dias. Entre os familiares, prevaleceram mulheres, de 31 a 45 anos, com ensino superior e renda acima de três salários mínimos. Embora quase todos afirmassem ter recebido informações sobre a terapia, houve maior conhecimento sobre a hemodiálise e função renal, e menor conhecimento sobre métodos dialíticos alternativos. Conclusão: Os resultados reforçam a necessidade de estratégias educativas mais claras e contínuas para melhorar a compreensão familiar sobre o tratamento. A atuação mais ativa da equipe de enfermagem na comunicação, bem como o uso de materiais informativos acessíveis e linguagem não técnica, pode favorecer a maior compreensão dos familiares.

Introduction: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is common in critically ill patients and is defined as a sudden reduction in renal function, often requiring Acute Renal Support therapies. Due to its high prevalence and high mortality in ICUs, understanding the disease and its treatment becomes essential. Family knowledge promotes active participation in care, improves communication, reduces anxiety, and strengthens trust in the team, being fundamental for decisions aligned with the patient's needs. Objective: To verify the knowledge of family members of critically ill patients regarding dialysis-dependent AKI. Method: This is an observational, descriptive, and prospective study, conducted according to the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines, carried out in the waiting rooms of the ICUs of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu (HCFMB) between September 2024 and December 2025. Participants were family members of hospitalized patients undergoing dialysis treatment. Results: 26 patients were included in the study, mostly elderly men with several days of ICU hospitalization. Most used vasoactive drugs, invasive ventilatory support, and underwent hemodialysis for more than three days. Among family members, women aged 31 to 45 years, with higher education and income above three minimum wages, predominated. Although almost all stated they had received information about the therapy, there was greater knowledge about hemodialysis and renal function, and less knowledge about alternative dialysis methods. Conclusion: The results reinforce the need for clearer and more continuous educational strategies to improve family understanding of the treatment. A more active role of the nursing team in communication, as well as the use of accessible informational materials and non-technical language, can promote greater understanding among family members.
