Alice Neel: as pessoas vêm em primeiro lugar

Abstract

Esta pesquisa tem por tema a contextualização, exposição e leitura de obras de Alice Neel, uma artista de retrato norte-americana do século XX. Neel pintou naturezas-mortas, paisagens, alguns abstratos e até animais, mas ganhou notoriedade por seus retratos de pessoas comuns e célebres. O objetivo da pesquisa foi investigar as inquietações sociais presentes na obra dessa artista, que movida por uma forte consciência social sobre as desigualdades e vulnerabilidades das pessoas, usou a pintura para afirmar a dignidade e a importância do ser humano. O presente trabalho engloba os marcos da vida de Alice Neel, contextualizando o ambiente, o momento histórico e artístico ao qual pertenceu, seguido pela leitura de quatro obras suas datadas de 1959 a 1980, a fim de compreender e refletir sobre as intenções e os princípios defendidos pela artista.

This research has as its theme the contextualization, exhibition and reading of works by Alice Neel, an American artist of the 20th century. Neel painted still life, landscapes, some abstracts and even animals, but he gained notoriety for his portraits of ordinary and famous people. The objective of the research was to investigate the social concerns present in the work of this artist, who moved by a strong social conscience about the inequalities and vulnerabilities of people who used painting to affirm the dignity and importance of the human being. The present work encompasses milestones in Alice Neel's life, contextualizing the environment, the historical and artistic moment to which she belonged, followed by the reading of four works of hers dated from 1959 to 1980, in order to understand and reflect on the intentions and the principles defended by the artist.
