Abstract
We propose to demonstrate that the main possibilities of approach concerning the work of Guimaraes Rosa have been outlined and addressed firstly by Antonio Candido. For this purpose, we use two seminal texts about Grande sertao: veredas as basis: O homem dos avessos and Jaguncos mineiros de Claudio a Guimaraes Rosa. On these and other essays and reviews, the critic brings up ideas that have been marked the studies regarding Guimaraes Rosa. Although Antonio Candido is considered the founder of the social-historic treatment of this author's work, we think that others perspectives, such as the metaphysical, the mythic, the linguistical and the psychoanalytic ones, came into being on Candido's essays.
