Cúpulas em igrejas de São Paulo

A presente pesquisa investiga as cúpulas localizadas nas igrejas católicas da cidade de São Paulo–SP e contempla sua importância como elemento arquitetônico nessas edificações. Pretendeu-se, à luz da história da arquitetura sacra ocidental, compreender o significado simbólico da cúpula e as relações que ela estabelece com a própria edificação. Foi realizado o estudo de caso de cinco igrejas da capital paulista, inclusas no contexto arquitetônico e histórico local. Parte das igrejas apresentadas foram reedificadas e outras foram erguidas durante o final do século XIX e início do século XX, as quais pertencem à arquitetura eclética. Constata-se a importância de reconhecer o devido valor do aludido patrimônio, em união aos estudos que vêm sendo realizados em pesquisas historiográficas, artísticas e arquitetônicas, de maneira que possa despertar o interesse para a conservação e manutenção desse patrimônio.

Abstract (english)

This research investigates the domes of the Catholic churches of São Paulo (SP) city and addresses their importance as an architectural element in these buildings. Supported by the history of Western sacred architecture, it aimed to understand the symbolic meaning of the dome and the relations it establishes with its own construction. A case study of five churches located in the capital of São Paulo was carried out. These churches belong to the local architectural and historical context. Some of them were rebuilt and others were constructed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and belong to the eclectic architecture. Recognizing the value of the patrimony in conjunction with the studies that have been carried out in historiographic, artistic and architectonic research is a key element in order to arouse the interest for the conservation and maintenance of this patrimony.
