This study examines the process of learning construction developed with 15 children from 3 classes of 6th at "EE Tolentino Miraglia School", located in Jaú, SP - Brazil. The children who took part in this study were considered by the coordination of the school and their teachers as being "poorly motivated", "frequently absent" and presenting learning difficulties. This dissertation was based on the references of the Social-Historical theory, which is founded on the dynamic construction of the knowledge by the individual, whose elements of mediation in the educational process are the social relationship aspects. Thus, we intended to analyze the conceptual development of the students and their comprehension in the process of teaching and learning, considering the interactions established in the studied context. During the program applied, we looked forward to integrating the concepts of the 5th and 6th grades in an interdisciplinary action involving mathematics, science and portuguese. The objective was to elaborate a medicinal herb garden, where the students would obtain the scientific knowledge in problem-situations. The pedagogical actions developed by the researcher/student and student/student were analyzed in groups and individually, bringing up the cognitive/social/affective aspects. We aimed to demonstrate that, in the practice founded on Vigotski studies, thoughts come from motivation, which includes interest, affection and emotion. On the other hand, the development of activities based in this theory gave the students the consciousness of being an active subject of the teaching and learning process, allowing them to use their capacity of "producing", analyzing their production and making decisions.
