As ações de natureza humana sempre foram objetos de estudos da geografia, sua conexão entre o meio natural e o social são capazes de preencher de significado uma paisagem e essa é uma realidade candente em São Thomé das Letras – MG, cidade escolhida para este estudo de caso. Cenário de diversas dinâmicas em diferentes tempos, a cidade está envolta em sua atmosfera mística que intriga até os pesquisadores mais céticos, consolidando assim uma paisagem única e nacionalmente conhecida, e que a geografia cultural se encarregará de interpretar. As duas atividades econômicas responsáveis pela maior movimentação de sua economia, mineração e turismo podem ser antagônicas, e tem um papel fundamental na composição da cultura local. O objetivo deste trabalho buscou identificar, a partir de entrevistas empíricas com lideranças dos segmentos (turismo, mineração, artes, politica, religião e patrimônios) as diferentes perspectivas de cada uma delas sobre a paisagem local, além de levantar propostas junto à população que beneficie moradores e visitantes.

Human nature actions have always been the object of geography studies, their connection between the natural and the social environment is capable of filling a landscape with meaning and this is a very vivid reality in São Thomé das Letras – Minas Gerais, in Brazil, the city chosen for this study of case. The scene of diverse dynamics at different moments of time, the city is enveloped in its mystical atmosphere that intrigues even the most skeptical researchers, thus consolidating an unique and nationally known landscape, and which cultural geography will be in charge of interpreting. The two economic activities
responsible for the greater movement of its economy, mining and tourism can be antagonistic, and have a fundamental role in the composition of the local culture. The objective of this work sought to identify, based on empirical interviews with leaders of the segments (tourism, mining, arts, politics, religion and heritage) the different perspectives of each one of them on the local landscape, besides raising proposals with the population that benefits residents and visitors.
