Figura polêmica na história da música do século XX, o compositor Charles E. Ives (1874-1954) vem recebendo, desde os últimos 30 anos, a atenção de diversos pesquisadores. Em razão da organização de seu acervo por John Kirkpatrick, e a publicação subsequente de A temporary mimeographed catalogue of the music manuscripts and related of Charles E. Ives (1960) e Memos (1972), o estudo sobre este compositor tem sido consideravelmente facilitado, levantando questões pertinentes à de sua vida e obra. Em nossa dissertação, investigamos os novos rumos tomados pela pesquisa e buscamos um novo entendimento sobre a contribuição de Ives à música de nosso século

Abstract (english)

A polemic figure in the history of twentieth century music, the composer Charles E. Ives (1874-1954) gas received the attention of many researchers in the past 30 years. Due to John Kirkpatrick's organization of lives's material and the subsequent publication of A temporary mimeographed catalogue of the music manuscripts and related materials of Charles E. Ives (1960) and Memos (1972), the study of this composer has been greatly facilitated, thus raising pertinent questions concerning his life and work. In this thesis, the new paths of Ives research are investigated, seeking a new understanding of his contribution to the twentieth century
