Demand for oil and its derivatives encourage the expansion of networks pipelines. The pipelines because they are works of great extension,impacting significantly the environment, needing to be licensed through the development of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR). A key point in these studies is to determine the degree of significance of impacts, ie the transformation power that each impact has on the environment they are in. In this context, the present study aims to identify the main criteria for defining the level of significance of the impact analysis Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR) of pipelines. Were analyzed 18 EIA / RIMA elaborate in Brazilian pipelines and evaluated by different consultants and environmental agencies. It was found that to determine the level of significance was considered as priority, the magnitude criteria, scope and duration of environmental impacts. These concepts are essential in recovery actions, because determine, respectively, the processing power of each impact, area which may achieve and how long will endure. Thus, this paper aims to provide some standardization of methodologies used in determining the degrees of significance, with emphasis to Brazilian pipelines projects.
