Entre memória e viagem, tradição e contemporaneidade: uma leitura de América Latina: traição e outras viagens (Furin to Nanbei), de Banana Yoshimoto

Abstract

A pesquisa investiga os contos da obra América Latina: traição e outras viagens (2000), da escritora japonesa Banana Yoshimoto, representante de uma parcela significativa de escritores formados no século XX, visivelmente influenciada pelas manifestações artísticas contemporâneas, incluindo outras literaturas. Nossa proposta é estudar, por meio da análise do foco narrativo e da interação entre personagens e espaços, as relações da prosa de Yoshimoto com a tradição dos gêneros em primeira pessoa na cultura japonesa e ocidental, a fim de demonstrar como os contos publicados em 2000 se constituem como escrita feminina marcada por um contraste exposto na estrutura literária. As tramas revigoram a situação aparentemente paradoxal da escritora, pois as ligações com a tradição nipônica das narrativas intimistas femininas convivem com as novas formas de narrar. A conciliação promovida pela escrita ficcional leva em conta o conteúdo imagético oriental tradicional e a forma literária ocidental contemporânea, ligados por elementos do gênero narrativo memorialístico.

The research investigates the short stories of the work Latin America: betrayal and other travels (2000), by Japanese writer Banana Yoshimoto, representative of a significant portion of writers who emerged in the 20th century, visibly influenced by contemporary artistic manifestations, including other literatures. Our proposal is to study, through the analysis of the narrative focus and the interaction between characters and spaces, the relations of Yoshimoto's prose with the tradition of first-person genres in Japanese and Western culture, in order to demonstrate how the stories published in 2000 are constituted as female writing marked by a contrast exposed in the literary structure. The plots reinvigorate the writer's apparently paradoxical situation, as the links with the Japanese tradition of intimate female narratives coexist with new ways of narrating. The conciliation promoted by fictional writing takes into account the traditional eastern imagery content and the contemporary western literary form, linked by elements of the memorialistic narrative genre.
