Este trabalho busca investigar e trazer à tona o debate dentro do campo da biologia, sobre a percepção de dor em invertebrados, pauta essa que origina debates e estudos no campo da bioética. Tradicionalmente, considerava-se que esses animais reagiam apenas a estímulos nocivos por mecanismos reflexos, sem consciência ou experiência subjetiva de dor. Ainda que não haja consenso definitivo sobre a existência de uma experiência consciente de dor nesses animais, a crescente evidência científica tem impulsionado debates éticos sobre seu uso e manejo em atividades humanas. Com isso em vista, a realização de uma revisão bibliográfica qualitativa incluindo artigos científicos, livros e teses, irá buscar trazer essa pauta em justaposição com interpretações anteriores da biologia desses organismos
Resumo (inglês)
This work aims to investigate and bring to light the debate within the field of biology regarding pain perception in invertebrates, a topic that has given rise to discussions and studies in the field of bioethics. Traditionally, it was believed that these animals reacted only to harmful stimuli through reflex mechanisms, without awareness or subjective experience of pain. Although there is no definitive consensus on the existence of a conscious experience of pain in these animals, growing scientific evidence has fueled ethical debates about their use and handling in human activities. With this in mind, a qualitative bibliographic review including scientific articles in academic journals, books, and theses will seek to address this issue in juxtaposition with previous interpretations of the biology of these organisms.
