Filogenômica, morfometria e sistemática da família Barychelidae Simon, 1889 (Araneae, Mygalomorphae)

Abstract

A família Barychelidae, a terceira mais diversa entre as famílias de Mygalomorphae, compreende duas subfamílias, Barychelinae e Sasoninae, 39 gêneros e 284 espécies. Sua ampla distribuição é evidenciada pela presença de suas espécies que formaram a Gondwana: África, América, Ásia e Oceania. Embora seja filogeneticamente bem suportada sua relação com a família Theraphosidae no clado Theraphosoidina, Barychelidae tem suas relações filogenéticas internas, especialmente entre os gêneros neotropicais de Sasoninae, pouco esclarecidas. Esta tese visa contribuir para o entendimento da evolução e classificação da família Barychelidae através de análises filogenômicas e morfométricas, além de revisões taxonômicas de diversos gêneros. Este trabalho foi dividido em três capítulos: o primeiro capítulo é um artigo que buscar examinar através de morfometria geométrica alguns principais caracteres morfológicos que distinguem Barychelidae e Theraphosidae. Neste capítulo os resultados demonstram que os caracteres tradicionais, como o formato da maxila e lábio, não são confiáveis para separar as duas famílias. No entanto, a disposição dos olhos mostrou diferenças significativas, particularmente entre os Sasoninae neotropicais e outros Barychelidae. O segundo capítulo é constituído por um artigo preliminar que investiga a posição filogenética dos gêneros de Barychelidae através de uma matriz de dados moleculares concatenados de UCE – Ultraconserved Elements e de AHE – Anchored Hybrid Elements. Os resultados deste capítulo revelam que Barychelidae consiste em uma família parafilética, com as espécies de Barychelinae formando um clado irmão à Theraphosidae, enquanto as espécies de Sasoninae neotropical formam um clado distinto em Nemesioidina. Por fim, o terceiro capítulo representa o resultado de um conjunto de artigos publicados e aceitos sobre Barychelidae, desenvolvida durante o doutorado. Em conclusão, esta tese apresenta resultados significativos para compreensão da filogenia e taxonomia de Barychelidae. As análises filogenômicas revelaram a parafilia da família e a posição filogenética dos gêneros neotropicais. A avaliação morfométrica contribuiu para a compreensão das dificuldades em delimitar os gêneros Barychelidae e Theraphosidae. As revisões taxonômicas e a ampliação dos conhecimentos sobre a distribuição geográfica das espécies brasileiras representam avanços importantes para o estudo da biodiversidade da família. Futuras pesquisas podem aprofundar a investigação da morfologia e biologia das espécies de Barychelidae.

The Barychelidae family, the third most diverse among Mygalomorphae families, comprises two subfamilies, Barychelinae and Sasoninae, 39 genera, and 284 species. Its wide Gondwanan distribution is evidenced by the presence of its species in the continents that formed Gondwana: Africa, America, Asia, and Oceania that originated from Gondwana. Although its relationship with the Theraphosidae family in the Theraphosoidina clade is well supported phylogenetically, the internal phylogenetic relationships of Barychelidae, especially among Neotropical genera of Sasoninae, are poorly understood. This thesis aims to contribute to the understanding of the evolution and classification of the Barychelidae family through phylogenomic and morphometric analyses, as well as taxonomic revisions of various genera. This work was divided into three chapters: the first chapter is an article that seeks to examine, through geometric morphometrics, some of the main morphological characters that distinguish Barychelidae and Theraphosidae. In this chapter, the results show that traditional characters, such as the shape of the maxilla and labium, are not reliable for separating the two families. However, the arrangement of the eyes showed significant differences, particularly between Neotropical Sasoninae and other Barychelidae. The second chapter consists of a preliminary article that investigates the phylogenetic position of Barychelidae genera through a concatenated molecular data matrix of UCEs (Ultraconserved Elements) and AHEs (Anchored Hybrid Elements). The results of this chapter reveal that Barychelidae is a paraphyletic family, with Barychelinae species forming a sister clade to Theraphosidae, while Neotropical Sasoninae species form a distinct clade within Nemesioidina. Finally, the third chapter represents the result of a set of published and accepted articles on Barychelidae, developed during the doctorate. In conclusion, this thesis presents significant results for understanding the phylogeny and taxonomy of Barychelidae. Phylogenomic analyses revealed the paraphyly of the family and the phylogenetic position of Neotropical genera. The morphometric evaluation contributed to the understanding of the difficulties in delimiting Barychelidae and Theraphosidae genera. Taxonomic revisions and the expansion of knowledge about the geographic distribution of Brazilian species represent important advances for the study of the family's biodiversity. Future research can delve deeper into the morphology and biology of Barychelidae species.
