Os efeitos do Grande Intercâmbio Biótico Americano nas faunas Sul-Americanas: uma revisão sistemática da literatura

Abstract

O Grande Intercâmbio Biótico Americano (GIBA) foi um importante evento evolutivo na história das Américas, e os seus processos ainda são um amplo tema de estudo ao longo dos anos. O objetivo dessa monografia é formar um panorama sobre a produção científica do GIBA e compreender quais os efeitos do intercâmbio nas faunas da América do Sul. Assim, foram utilizadas metodologias cienciométricas para caracterizar a produção e uma revisão sistemática da literatura para qualificar o que se tem de resultados. A literatura amostrada apresentou uma crescente produção de autores da América Latina e vários centros de estudo na região, além de expor as mudanças na composição faunística, migrações dentro do intercâmbio e a influência de novos elementos nos ecossistemas sul-americanos. Em conclusão, os resultados mostraram congruência com tendências bibliográficas anteriores, e o enorme peso que o Grande Intercâmbio Biótico Americano têm sobre a biota da América do Sul até hoje.

The Great American Biotic Interchange (GABI) was a pivotal evolutionary event in the history of the Americas, and its processes are a vast field of research throughout the years. The goal of this study is to present an overview of the main scientific production on GABI and to understand its impacts on the South American fauna. Therefore, scientometrics methodology was applied to outline the production and a literature review was used to describe the results. Our data shows an increase in Latin American participation within the field, as well as several study centers in the region. In addition, changes in faunistic composition, different migration patterns inside the interchange, and the influence these new elements had on South American ecosystems are also explored. In conclusion, the results obtained reflect previous bibliographic trends and the vital role of the Great American Biotic Interchange on the evolution of present-day South American current biota.
