O presente artigo, realizado a partir de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, analisa as Guerras da Chechênia (1994-1996 e 1999-2000) sob a perspectiva da teoria do direito dos povos, de John Rawls, destacando os dilemas éticos e políticos da autodeterminação e intervenção internacional. A pesquisa examina como a busca pela independência confronta o interesse russo em preservar sua integridade territorial, analisando as justificativas e os limites morais das ações de ambos os lados. Com esta finalidade apresentamos no artigo um pouco sobre as tradições chechênias e a história de seu povo, bem como os acontecimentos da guerra e o contexto político da Rússia e as consequências de ambos os conflitos.

This article, based on bibliographical research, analyzes the Chechen Wars (1994-1996 and 1999-2000) from the perspective of John Rawls’ theory of the law of peoples, highlighting the ethical and political dilemmas of self-determination and international intervention. The research examines how the search for independence confronts the Russian interest in protecting its territorial integrity, analyzing the justifications and moral limits of the actions of both sides. To this end, we present in the article a little about the Chechen traditions and the history of its people, as well as the events of the war and the political context of Russia and the consequences of both conflicts.
