THE INDIGENOUS BODY AND THE STEREOTYPICAL CONSTRUCTION IN TYBYRA:UMA TRAGEDIA INDIGENA BRASILEIRA, BY JUAO NYN

Abstract

This paper investigates the incorporation of history by literature in Tybyra: uma tragedia indigena brasileira (2020), by Juao Nyn, which deconstructs the colonizer's narrative about the death of the Tupinamba Indian condemned for sodomy by French soldiers. From the perspective of the reports of Priest Ivo D'evreux in Viagem ao norte do Brazil feita nos annos 1613 a 1614, in Sao Luiz do Maranhao, and supported by bibliographical research, we seek to use metahistoriographical theory to conceive in indigenous literature the non-hegemonic discourse or the counter-discourse, and thus understand indigenous writing as a fundamental means of deconstructing stereotypes about their culture.
