A presente dissertação parte do interesse de entender o exercício da cidadania pelo uso social de espaços e equipamentos urbanos na cidade de Rio Claro - SP. A ocupação das formas e sua ressignificação, através das práticas de grupos e coletivos, revitalizam prédios abandonados pela lógica capitalista de uso do território. Esses grupos se instituem como alternativas de luta por acesso ao espaço e direitos urbanos pela população, se tornando resistência contra o discurso hegemônico imposto à sociedade. Dessa maneira, esta pesquisa propõe reflexões sobre alguns conceitos essenciais para discutir o território, a cidade, os agentes produtores do espaço urbano e o exercício da cidadania pela população urbana, levando a descrição e reflexão do principal objeto de estudo deste trabalho, que é a forma de ocupação do antigo galpão de armazenagem ferroviário, feita pela academia MM Boxe na área central da cidade. Buscou-se expor, através de levantamento bibliográfico, levantamento de dados, análise de leis e decretos, trabalho de campo, realização de entrevistas, fotos e mapas, como o complexo contexto de demandas e encontros entre o grupo e o Administração Pública Municipal, permitiu o desenvolvimento de práticas que promovem a reapropriação do espaço pela reterritorialização simbólica, material e singular do prédio. Constatou-se de maneira preliminar que, as ações que o grupo ligado a academia realiza, fomentam a participação social em discussões e práticas que tornam o espaço urbano de Rio Claro menos desigual, sendo um agente transformador no uso do espaço e no exercício da cidadania.

This dissertation is grounded in the interest in understanding the exercise of citizenship through the social use of urban spaces and facilities in the city of Rio Claro, São Paulo, Brazil. The occupation of urban forms and their resignification through the practices of groups and collectives contribute to the revitalization of buildings abandoned by the capitalist logic of territorial use. These groups emerge as alternatives in the struggle for access to space and urban rights by the population, positioning themselves as forms of resistance to the hegemonic discourse imposed on society. In this sense, the research proposes reflections on key concepts for discussing territory, the city, agents involved in the production of urban space, and the exercise of citizenship by the urban population. This discussion leads to the description and analysis of the main object of study: the occupation of the former railway storage warehouse by the MM Boxe academy, located in the central area of the city. Through bibliographic research, data collection, analysis of laws and decrees, fieldwork, interviews, photographic records, and cartographic production, the study seeks to demonstrate how the complex context of demands and interactions between the group and the Municipal Public Administration enabled the development of practices that promote the reappropriation of space through the symbolic, material, and singular reterritorialization of the building. Preliminary findings indicate that the actions carried out by the group linked to the MM Boxe academy foster social participation in debates and practices that contribute to reducing inequalities in Rio Claro’s urban space, positioning the group as a transformative agent in both the use of space and the exercise of citizenship.
