Sociedade e política em Ribeirão Preto: estratégias de dominação (1960-1964)

Abstract

This work intends to rescue historiographically the period between 19601964, São Paulo State, where it can be seen a clean loss of the political hegemony of the dominating classes. The moment was of intensive local, national and international changes. Besides it, the political agitations of the period showed that it was not possible anymore to keep on the social control by the dominating class using the same methods. Until now, they were, they were efficient. But now it was necessary to make some readjustments in these methods and others had to be implemented. Althought they have produced new conflicts, at the end the final objective was reached. This work showed the effective participation of the dominating ribeirãopretana class in the deposition of the president João Goulart, victim of a military and civil conspiracy. To reach the aim, some groups of the civil society and several institutions were fundamental by using philanthropic and social workings characteristics. The control of the jornalism and the difusion of some informations contributed to give and ideoligical configuration to the society. These postures became evident the preoccupation of the dominating classes in oppresssing the communicating means whose opinions were different from their. It was also showed the control over the syndicates (labor unions), that was possible due to capacitance courses given to their leaders, who received special training in U.S.A., through the Ponto IV international pact. The collaboration between worker and ownershippers became difficult to the communists the ascendency over the local workers. In the same way, it contributed to maintain the local society by using repressive police state force and restraining any manifestation of the more excited men or understood by the local dominating class as dangerous to the capitalism.
