Revisão taxonômica, filogenia e distribuição de Pabstiella Brieger & Senghas (Orchidaceae: Pleurothallidinae)

Abstract

Pabstiella (Pleurothallidinae) é um dos gêneros de orquídeas com maior número de espécies endêmicas da Mata Atlântica. Apesar dos contínuos avanços em sistemática e taxonomia, ainda há diversas confusões taxonômicas, devido ao número limitado de coletas para muitas espécies, ao pequeno tamanho das plantas e flores, entre outros fatores. Este trabalho baseia-se em uma revisão taxonômica detalhada do gênero, incluindo a curadoria de coleções de herbário, a elaboração de descrições morfológicas padronizadas, bem como de pranchas botânicas e ilustrações feitas a partir de plantas vivas, assim como de espécimes secos e preservados em álcool. Os resultados são apresentados em seis capítulos, sendo quatro deles já publicados. O capítulo principal, atualmente em fase final, consiste em uma revisão abrangente de 113 espécies do gênero Pabstiella, resultante da análise de cerca de 1800 registros de herbário, além de material cultivado de mais de 100 espécies do gênero. São propostos 20 novos sinônimos e 39 lectótipos são designados. Também são listadas as espécies obscuras e aquelas que consideramos não pertencer ao gênero. Os capítulos dois, três e quatro, já publicados, tratam da descrição de cinco espécies novas e da proposta de onze novos sinônimos. O capítulo cinco refere-se à filogenia publicada do gênero Madisonia e à transferência de três espécies de Pabstiella para esse gênero. No último capítulo, apresenta-se uma análise geral dos padrões de riqueza e distribuição geográfica do gênero.

Pabstiella (Pleurothallidinae) is one of the orchid genera with the highest number of species endemic to the Atlantic Forest. Despite continuous advances in systematics and taxonomy, several taxonomic issues remain unresolved, largely due to the limited number of collections for many species, the small size of the plants and flowers, among other factors. This work is based on a detailed taxonomic revision of the genus, which included herbarium curation, the preparation of standardized morphological descriptions, as well as digital plates and illustrations prepared from living plants, and from dried and spirit-preserved specimens. The results are presented across six chapters, four of which have already been published. The main chapter, currently in its final stage, consists of a comprehensive revision of 113 species of the genus Pabstiella, based on the analysis of approximately 1800 herbarium records, in addition to cultivated material of more than one hundred species of the genus. Twenty-one synonyms are proposed, and 39 lectotypes are designated. Obscure species and those considered not to belong to the genus are also listed. Chapters two, three, and four, already published, consist of the description of five new species and the proposal of eleven new synonyms. Chapter five refers to the published phylogeny of the genus Madisonia and the transfer of three species from Pabstiella to the genus. The last chapter presents a general analysis of species richness and the geographic distribution patterns of the genus.
