A pesca artesanal é uma atividade econômica de grande importância para diversas famílias em todo o Brasil. Entretanto, a participação feminina nas tomadas de decisão nem sempre é levada em consideração. Como consequência, as mulheres perdem seus direitos trabalhistas, os benefícios do trabalho formal e sua voz no ambiente de trabalho. Tem crescido em alguns estados a mobilização das mulheres para a conquista do seu espaço nas reivindicações da categoria. Entretanto, há uma grande escassez de estudos sobre a participação feminina na pesca do estado de São Paulo, ainda que existam posições de liderança ocupadas por mulheres. Isso indica a necessidade de investigações relativas à caracterização do trabalho feminino para demonstrar o nível de representatividade das mulheres no setor pesqueiro, bem como a vivência desse trabalho sob a perspectiva dessas mulheres. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo contribuir para o conhecimento científico a respeito da participação feminina nos processos de representação e liderança da pesca artesanal em municípios do estado de São Paulo. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas e submetidos à análise de conteúdo, sendo codificados e categorizados de acordo com semelhanças nas respostas. Os resultados demonstram grandes desafios em ser uma mulher ocupando uma posição de liderança num setor onde a maior participação com visibilidade é masculina. Dentre as dificuldades, a relação com o poder público e o dever de mediar esse diálogo com os pescadores são as mais comentadas, além da falta de amparo ao setor da pesca artesanal. Recentemente, a pandemia de COVID-19 modificou o trabalho das lideranças e dos pescadores de forma drástica, trazendo insegurança e instabilidade. O estudo traz à tona as necessidades de políticas públicas efetivas para a pesca artesanal que garantam direitos, amparo e proteção aos trabalhadores e especialmente às trabalhadoras da pesca.

Artisanal fishing is an economic activity of great importance for several families throughout Brazil. However,female participation in decision-making is not always taken into consideration. As a result, women lose their labor rights, the benefits of formal work and their voice in the workplace. The mobilization of women to conquer their space in the category's demands has grown in some states. However, there is a great scarcity of studies on female participation in fishing in the state of São Paulo, even though there are leadership position sheld by women. This indicates the need for investigations related to the characterization of female work to demonstrate the level of representation of women in the fishing sector, as well as the experience of this work from the perspective of these women. This work aims to contribute to scientific knowledge about female participation in the processes of representation and leadership of artisanal fisheries in municipalities in the state of São Paulo. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and submitted to content analysis, being coded and categorized according to similarities in the responses. The results demonstrate great challenges in being a woman occupying a leadership position in a sector where the greatest participation with visibility is male, mainly to deal with bureaucratic issues between fishermen and public authorities. Among these difficulties, the relationship with public authorities and the duty to mediate the dialogue with fishermen are the most discussed, in addition to the lack of support for the artisanal fishing sector. Recently, the COVID19 pandemic modified the work of leaders and fishermen drastically, bringing insecurity and instability. The study brings to light the needs of effective public policies for artisanal fishing that guarantee rights, support and protection to workers and specially to fishing workers.
