Os imigrantes alemães em Rio Claro: estratégias de sobrevivência e redes de sociabilidade nos séculos XIX e XX

A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar as redes sociais estabelecidas pelos imigrantes alemães em Rio Claro no período que compreende a segunda metade do século XIX e o início do século XX. Muitos alemães se transferiram para Rio Claro no contexto da crise da mão-de-obra escrava e chegaram ao Brasil para a lavoura do café. Obviamente, os mesmos queriam novas oportunidades de vida, ao mesmo tempo em que desejavam resguardar tradições, hábitos e costumes da terra natal. Para isso, tais imigrantes estabeleceram determinadas redes sociais, sendo, algumas destas, objetos dessa investigação, abrangendo três esferas sociais: Igreja, Escola e Clube de Ginástica, além de perpassar algumas questões da política local. Utilizaremos como fonte principal o Arquivo da Igreja Luterana, com assentos de batizado e casamento e documentos sobre a fundação da Escola Alemã, da Igreja Alemã e do Clube de Ginástica no município de Rio Claro

Abstract (english)

This study aims to analyze social networks established by German´s immigrants in Rio Claro in the period of the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Many Germans have moved to Rio Claro in the context of the crisis of slave labor in Brazil and came to the coffee plantations. Obviously, they wanted new life opportunities, and on the other hand they wanted to protect traditions, habits and customs of their homeland. To do so, such immigrants have established certain social networks, objects of this investigation, particularly regarding three social spheres: church, school and club gymnastics and, in addition, this study works upon some issues of local politics. We will use as the main source file of the Lutheran Church, with seating christening and marriage and documents about the founding of the German School, the Church and the German Gymnastics Club in the city during the late nineteenth century
