O presente trabalho apresenta uma análise do romance The Passion of New Eve, da autora inglesa Angela Carter, considerando a forma como as personagens femininas foram construídas. Foi dada especial atenção ao modo como a construção destas personagens é feita de maneira a contestar o que se diz popularmente sobre o gênero – mais especificamente, o gênero feminino. O romance descontrói diversos mitos que cercam a feminilidade e a definição de ser mulher. Sendo assim, este trabalho busca evidenciar tal desconstrução, mostrando também como a obra dialoga com discussões que se tem hoje sobre o gênero. Em suma, esta pesquisa de mestrado tem como objetivo analisar as personagens a fim de mostrar como elas subvertem os diversos mitos que envolvem o gênero, evidenciando a artificialidade e irracionalidade destes e demonstrando que, por não nascerem com os indivíduos, são passíveis de mudança. Assim, enfoca-se no caráter subversivo da escrita carteriana. Para tanto, este trabalho utiliza obras teóricas como Beauvoir (1967), Butler (2017) e Foucault (1999), por exemplo, bem como trabalhos que demonstram a relação entre literatura e gênero, como Corpos que (se) Importam: Refletindo questões de gênero na literatura e em outros saberes (2018); além de críticos que analisaram o romance em questão.

The present work analyzes the novel The Passion of New Eve by the English author Angela Carter, considering the way the female characters were constructed. Special attention was paid on the way these characters‟ construction is made in order to challenge what is popularly said about gender – more specifically, feminine gender. The novel deconstructs several myths about femininity and the definition of what a woman is. Therefore, this work seeks to show this deconstruction, also highlighting how the novel dialogues with gender discussions made nowadays. In short, this master research‟s objective is to analyze the characters with the intention of showing how they subvert the myths which involve gender and their artificiality as well as their irrationality and, since they are not born with individuals, they can be changed. Hence, it is emphasized the subversive aspect of the carterian writing. To do so, this research relies on theoretical works as Beauvoir (1967), Butler (2017) and Foucault (1999), for example, as well as works that demonstrate the relation between literature and gender, as Corpos que (se) Importam: Refletindo questões de gênero na literatura e em outros saberes (2018); added to critical material about the novel.
