For understanding environmental education as a pedagogic practice that is strangthening its theoretical principles under the perspective of emancipative education for social transformation we must contextualize it historically in two main categories: the environmental issue and education. There are today different means for practicing and thinking environmental education, including those restricted to its ecological dimension, keeping in the background the educational process and reducing the concept of environment to its "natural" aspect. Man-nature relationship historically built and permeated by human work is closely related to cultural, political, economic, and ethical determinants that organized and still rule are social practices. Therefore, transforming this relationship means pursuing to construct a society ecologically prudent, socially fair, culturally diverse, politically active, and economically feasible. Environmental Education must orient its reflections and actions toward a citizenly, critical, and emancipating education, capable of dialoguing with different knowledges and culture, and being essentially participative and democratic. Under this view, this research on Environmental Education purposed to set up a group of community surveyors as "research partners". it's a participative investigative-action that purpued to build systematized knowledges on the history of environmental modifications in a housing community in the city of Bauru-SP. By thinking of a conscious and consequential environmental educational process we aimed to contribute to the appropriation, by dweller-citizens, of the history of their living environment
