Evolução do uso e cobertura da terra na Região Imediata de Uruçuí - PI entre 1985 e 2022: impactos da expansão da soja sobre o bioma Cerrado e as comunidades locais.

Abstract

O Bioma do Cerrado tem sido fortemente impactado pela expansão da fronteira agrícola brasileira, isso acontece com ainda mais intensidade na região do Matopiba, que é impulsionado pelo avanço do agronegócio e da agricultura de monocultura da soja. As consequências são percebidas nos meios sociais e ambientais, perdas da biodiversidade de fauna e flora, contaminação dos recursos hídricos e ameaças no modo de vida das comunidades tradicionais presentes nesses territórios. Este trabalho visa analisar a expansão da monocultura de soja no Bioma Cerrado e seus impactos ambientais na Região Imediata Uruçuí, no Piauí, durante o período de 1985 a 2022. O estudo contextualiza o avanço da fronteira agrícola no Matopiba e discute as pressões do agronegócio sobre a vegetação nativa e as populações tradicionais, em um quadro de intensos conflitos pela terra. A metodologia empregou revisão bibliográfica e conceitual sobre os danos ambientais e conflitos decorrentes da expansão da soja, e utilizou ferramentas de geoprocessamento (Google Earth Engine e ArcGIS Pro) com dados do MapBiomas para avaliar a evolução do uso e cobertura da terra e a conectividade florestal na região de estudo. A análise cronológica do espaço é crucial para a compreensão das transformações da paisagem, permitiu quantificar as alterações e a intensificação da agricultura em detrimento das formações nativas. Os resultados indicam a magnitude da supressão da vegetação do Cerrado e reforçam a necessidade de uma gestão territorial que concilie o desenvolvimento econômico com a sustentabilidade ambiental e a justiça social.

The Cerrado biome has been heavily impacted by the expansion of the Brazilian agricultural frontier, and this is even more intense in the Matopiba region, driven by the advance of agribusiness and soybean monoculture. The consequences are felt in social and environmental contexts, including losses of biodiversity of fauna and flora, contamination of water resources, and threats to the way of life of traditional communities in these territories. This work aims to analyze the expansion of soybean monoculture in the Cerrado biome and its environmental impacts in the Immediate Uruçuí Region, Piauí, during the period from 1985 to 2022. The study contextualizes the advance of the agricultural frontier in Matopiba and discusses the pressures of agribusiness on native vegetation and traditional populations, within a framework of intense land conflicts. The methodology employed a bibliographic and conceptual review of the environmental damage and conflicts arising from soybean expansion, and used geoprocessing tools (Google Earth Engine and ArcGIS Pro) with MapBiomas data to assess the evolution of land use and land cover and forest connectivity in the study region. The chronological analysis of the space is crucial for understanding landscape transformations, allowing for the quantification of changes and the intensification of agriculture at the expense of native formations. The results indicate the magnitude of the suppression of Cerrado vegetation and reinforce the need for territorial management that reconciles economic development with environmental sustainability and social justice.
