Abstract

Abstract (english)

The present study is an investigation grounded in the methodological approach of Action Research carried out at EMEF Sol, a school located in the far eastern area of the city of São Paulo. The field of analysis focuses on the process of planning, organizing, and carrying out a school Sarau (poetry and arts gathering) featuring different artistic languages and their possible contributions to an antiracist education. The creation of the Sarau was based on texts and musical compositions by Black authors, from which artistic performances were collectively developed and presented at the thematic school Sarau entitled “From Carolina to Conceição.” The research highlights the representational importance of Black role models for students through the lives and works of major Brazilian women such as writers Carolina Maria de Jesus and Conceição Evaristo, enabling the self-esteem of Black students to be strengthened as they occupy leading roles in the scenic actions performed during the Sarau, involving the entire school community. The study produced positive and relevant data indicating that spaces of creation and expressiveness experienced through the artistic languages of theater, dance, music, and visual arts—based on literary works by Black authors—can contribute to the appreciation of Black identity within the school environment, thus constituting a possible approach to antiracist education with benefits for everyone involved in the process.
