Abstract

Abstract (english)

The rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) produces latex, which is the main raw material for the production of natural rubber. It is a plant that requires a high investment in the initial years of implementation, presenting a juvenile phase between 6 and 7 years, and only after this period does the extraction of latex begin, and consequently, the economic return. The objective of this work was to economically analyze a rubber plantation in the first years of installation, on a farm in the city of Tanabi-SP, located in the Northwest of São Paulo. Methodologically, the first three years were used to analyze production costs, and for the profitability indicators, the bleeding of the first three productive years (from the 6th year of the rubber plantation's implementation) was taken into account. The most significant costs in the initial years were expenses with seedlings and labor. Regarding the profitability analysis, a profitability of -31.98% was observed, which indicates that there is no return on the initial investment in these first three years, and an equilibrium production of 7,392.41kg, indicating that possibly in the 4th year of production the producer can now obtain a return on the initial investment. Therefore, it is concluded that even with the ups and downs of prices, the activity in question is profitable, validating the success of the producer's investment and the growth of the sector, as the area can have long-lasting latex production for many years.
