Resumo
The aim of this article is to trace the course of the newspaper A Veneza de Sao Paulo, developed in the most acute years of the monarchy-republic transition, seeking to place it in the context of the expansion of the republican movement, in the then Imperial City of Sao Paulo, moment in which that the capital of Sao Paulo was going through an intense process of changes in the economic field, reflected in its urban and cultural conformation. The newspaper, in its different phases, brought together a group of intellectuals who, in order to express the interests of the rise of a new economic elite in search of prestige and political power, made use of a political semantics based on opposing concepts, with a view to delegitimizing the monarchical system. In theoretical-methodological terms, the article contemplates Reinhart Koselleck's concepts of political semantics, in dialogue with Sidney Tarrow's concepts of repertoire and Ann Swindler's cultural action.
