Da ficção à realidade: a representação da mulher doméstica na mídia - uma análise de "O Show de Truman" e das tendências digitais contemporâneas

Abstract

Esta dissertação faz uma análise crítica da persistente representação do papel social da mulher como uma figura doméstica e submissa na mídia contemporânea, explorando as implicações sociais e culturais dessa representação e seus impactos no imaginário coletivo da audiência. Examinando por meio de paralelos entre a personagem feminina do filme "O Show de Truman" e as personagens por trás das tendências digitais "tradwife" e "esposa troféu", a hipótese levantada é de que a constante representação da mulher doméstica como um papel social natural da mulher reforça ideais de feminilidade baseados na passividade e submissão, contribuindo para uma cultura de culpabilização das vítimas de violência de gênero, bem como sustentando as justificativas para tais violências que atuam não só no campo simbólico. A pesquisa adota uma abordagem qualitativa, utilizando análise do discurso imagético para examinar os objetos de estudo. Estruturada em três capítulos analíticos, essa dissertação apresenta fundamentação teórico-metodológica das principais autoras clássicas e contemporâneas que abriram caminhos e seguem criando oportunidades de discussões acerca dos direitos da mulher na sociedade. Com ênfase na representação feminina na mídia, a dissertação explora as construções imagéticas discursivas que moldam a experiência e a identidade feminina a partir de papéis sociais de gênero e as relações dos estereótipos construídos por essas representações com a violência simbólica. Além da análise imagética discursiva de uma personagem fílmica, a dissertação propõe examinar o impacto das tendências online "tradwife" e "esposa troféu" na construção de representações femininas e na apropriação de discursos pautados como empoderamento. A pesquisa busca também contribuir para os estudos feministas contemporâneos, analisando mecanismos discursivos que sustentam a permanência dos estereótipos de gênero na mídia.

This dissertation critically analyzes the persistent representation of women's social role as domestic and submissive figures in contemporary media, exploring the social and cultural implications of this representation and its impact on the audience's collective imagination. Examining parallels between the female character in the film "The Truman Show" and the characters behind the digital trends "tradwife" and "trophy wife," the hypothesis is that the constant representation of domestic women as a natural social role reinforces ideals of femininity based on passivity and submission, contributing to a culture of blaming victims of gender-based violence and supporting justifications for such violence that operate beyond the symbolic realm. The research adopts a qualitative approach, using image-based discourse analysis to examine the objects of study. Structured in three analytical chapters, this dissertation presents the theoretical and methodological foundation of key classical and contemporary authors who have paved the way and created opportunities for discussion about women's rights in society. With an emphasis on female representation in the media, this dissertation explores the discursive imagery that shapes female experience and identity based on gender roles and the relationship between stereotypes constructed by these representations and symbolic violence. In addition to analyzing the discursive imagery of a film character, the dissertation examines the impact of online trends such as "tradwife" and "trophy wife" on the construction of female representations and the appropriation of discourses based on empowerment. The research also seeks to contribute to contemporary feminist studies by analyzing the discursive mechanisms that sustain the persistence of gender stereotypes in the media.
