Several processes have changed the trajectory of the knowledge/thought that we conceive today as geographic. Human history reveals that, in different periods, man with his subjective and material environment has consolidated elements for the effectuation of characteristics that, united, give substance to knowledge; and the geographic one is no exception to the rule. This paper therefore aims to tackle scales as a basis for interpreting the origins of geographic knowledge by means of an exercise that we called to break scales. The debate drew on the concept of root in an attempt to reveal a geography of geographic knowledge through the scalar approach.en
