Assessment in innovative engineering courses: A performance comparison between project based learning and team based learning
Abstract
Innovative methodologies in engineering education are the new tendency that is being adopted by many universities worldwide. The conception that takes account that the students are de center of the knowledge is became a mandatory guide for the engineering courses. One of innovation methodology is project based learning (PBL) in which the students learn the technical concepts through multidisciplinary project when they are conceiving, designing, implementing and operating one prototype. In the other side there is another methodology which estimulates the students to develop transversal skills through the team work conception called team based learning (TBL).In this paper a comparison between both methodologies is presented considering the assessment outcomes. The scenario was the fifth semester of the Industrial Engineering course in a private university. After conducting statistical analysis the results presented the similar outocomes for both metodologies and some guides for improvements in this research are presented.
