Magnetic properties of acicular ultrafine iron particles
Abstract
The introduction of high recording densities on recording media has meant a dramatic bit size reduction and track density increase on the media surface. The magnetic properties of ultrafine iron particles smaller than (a) 60 nm and (b) 230 nm (major axis) obtained from a new synthetic carbonate Fe(III)-based route are reported. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetization and Mossbauer spectroscopy (MS) have been used to characterize the resulting samples.
