Resumo
O Século XX foi marcado por mudanças nas características urbanísticas nas cidades do Brasil,
que experimentaram um rápido crescimento urbano e industrial, o que também foi verificado
nas cidades do Vale do Paraíba. Para tanto, o presente Trabalho de Graduação teve como
objetivo documentar o crescimento da malha urbana da cidade de Guaratinguetá ao longo dos
anos, assim como avaliar a conservação do patrimônio arquitetônico da cidade no período de
1930 a 2018. Para tanto, foi realizado um levantamento de mapas, fotografias e dados
históricos da cidade em museus, bibliotecas locais e na internet. Também foram realizadas
fotografias de determinados pontos de Guaratinguetá com o intuito de verificar as condições
atuais dos espaços públicos e edifícios. Os dados coletados permitiram constatar a rápida
expansão da cidade ao longo dos anos, assim como foi notável a influência da construção da
rodovia presidente Dutra e da instalação das instituições de ensino e indústrias em
Guaratinguetá nos séculos XX e XXI. Verificou-se também a precarização do espaço público
e a negligência com a arquitetura e relação do cidadão com o espaço urbano. Por fim, pôde-se
notar o interesse atual dos órgãos públicos em restaurar o patrimônio arquitetônico de
Guaratinguetá e resgatar a estética antiga da cidade, por meio de recentes projetos de
restauração e reformas de edifícios históricos
The 20th century was marked by urbanistic changes throughout the cities of Brazil, which experienced a quick urban and industrial growth. That could also be verified in the Paraíba Valley. For that, this article had as objectives the documentation of the growth of the urban mesh of the city of Guaratinguetá throughout the years as well as the comparison of the state of preservation of the city’s architectural heritage in the period between 1930 and 2018. To achieve that, maps, photographs and historic data of the city were collected in museums, local libraries and institutions. Pictures of spots and buildings of interest were also taken in order to compare the current state of maintenance with a previous one. The observation of the collected data showed the rapid expansion of the city throughout the years and the remarkable influence of the construction of Presidente Dutra Highway and of the establishment of industries and educational facilities in the city on the 20th and 21st centuries. Also observed in this research were the degradation of the public space and the negligence towards the public architecture and the relationship of the citizens to the city. Lastly, it was possible to verify an interest from public administration on restoring the architectural heritage of Guaratinguetá and recover the lost charm of the city through recent projects for restoration and renovation of historic buildings
