(2023-03-01) Czekalski Lobascz, Brenda; Reis, Maria Beatriz de França; Mendes, Gabriella de Perez Monteiro e Tiburcio; Cruz, Danillo Christian de Oliveira; Damaceno, Maria Jose Caetano Ferreira; Sartorao Filho, Carlos Izaias [UNESP]; Medical School; Physiotherapy School; Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP)
Objective: To identify the determinants of menstrual cup use among medical students in Brazil. Methods: A cross-sectional study with an online survey regularly applied to matriculate women from Medical School in January 2021. Results: Of 277 women, 164 participated. The mean age was 22.26 ± 3.21 years. In all 136 women preferred external pads, 60 internal pads, 28 menstrual cups, and 11 did not use. Using a 1–10 scale, price, efficacy, sustainability, practice, vaginal health status, hygiene, and importance of internal genital integrity were investigated. Thirty-seven (22.56%) women related the use of menstrual cups in the last year. Using any method to reduce menstruation had an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 0.310 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.122–0.787). Concern about the environmental biodegradation had an aOR of 6.369 (95% CI 1.372–29.562); concern about intimal health had an aOR 1.996 (95% CI 1.183–3.368); and concern about internal genital integrity had an aOR of 0.824 (95% CI 0.682–0.995) for menstrual cup use. Conclusion: The significant independent factors for the use or adherence to menstrual cups were: women using a method to reduce their menstrual flow; concerning biodegradation; concerning vaginal health; with no concerns about manipulating their genitalia. The menstrual cup was used by 22.56% of a medical school in Brazil among undergraduate women.

EDUCATION AND ETHICS: THE VALUE OF PRESENCE AND ALTERITY IN THE TEACHER'S TRAINING AND PRACTICE
(Univ Estadual Paulista-unesp, Fac Ciencias Letras Assis, 2022-03-01) Mantovani Leite, Sandra Regina; Trisltz, Rodolfo Gabriel; Carvalho, Alonso Bezerra de [UNESP]; Univ Londrina UEL; Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP)
This study aims to understand and deepen the reflection on the ethical dimension in teacher education and performance, emphasizing its importance for the development of a pedagogical praxis in favor of dialogical relationships. Faced with a pedagogical context marked by the conceptions present in contemporaneity that are guided by the condition that students are not seen as subjects of their own history and by the scientific development that privileges doing over thinking, we listed as main questions: what are the actions Could they help teachers to rethink their pedagogical practice, working so that human education becomes the essential aspect? Through a qualitative bibliographic research, based on authors such as Severino, A. J. (2011, 2010), Saviani (2015, 2016), Goergen (2011), Carvalho (2013, 2015, 2016), among others, we will seek to affirm the importance of alterity and presence in the relationship between teachers and students for a humanizing and emancipating education. We consider that every pedagogical action, from its origin and purposes, objectives and goals, has a close relationship with the Ethical Dimension and, therefore, they are ethical processes that, when carried out in the school institution, are committed to elevating the student from his condition as an individual in search of its humanization and emancipation.

    (2022-09-01) Sartorao Filho, C. I. [UNESP]; Sartorao Neto, C. I.; Sartorao, A. L.V.; Terribile, D. C.; Mello, R.; Mello, B. B.; Zoqui, M. C.; Duarte, D. O.; Cachoni, L. E.G.; Bisseto, V. C.Q.; Ribeiro, E. A.C.; Faculty of Medicine; Sao Paulo Medical Association; Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP); Universidade de São Paulo (USP)
Background: Limited research has examined mobile phone-based platforms for survey recruitment, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Our objective was to investigate the feasibility and representativeness of mobile phone-based advertisement during a preliminary study about COVID-19 vaccine hesitation in Brazil. Moreover, we evaluate whether the older population can be reached through mobile phone-based platforms of the survey. Methods: We conducted a study in December 2021 based on a preliminary survey about the COVID-19 vaccine hesitation in Assis, Brazil, Sao Paulo state. From a list of the adult population hesitant about the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, we sent a mobile phone-based advertisement inviting the participants to answer the survey for one week. The respondent's data were collected in a Google form platform. The comparison between the target population and the respondents was made using the Chi-squared test and the Welch's test, using a P-value of 0.05 as significative. Results: The response rate was 9.99% after one week. The mean age of the respondent group was 33.97 (SD 14.99) and 35.05 (SD 14.19) of the population, with a P-value of 0.192 and a Cohen's d coefficient of 0.0754, corresponding to a small effect size between groups. We demonstrate that the mobile phone-based survey is a feasible and representative strategy during the pandemics in Brazil. Moreover, the older population respondent was representative. Conclusion: We achieved a representative sample of respondents using the mobile phone-based survey in Brazil. Furthermore, it was representative of all sociodemographic and health characteristics assessed. Finally, these findings suggest that the method is a highly feasible and economical means of recruiting for survey research.

(2022-01-01) Figueiredo, Célia Cristina Malaguti [UNESP]; da Costa Gomes, Amanda [UNESP]; Granero, Filipe Oliveira [UNESP]; Bronzel Junior, João Luiz [UNESP]; Silva, Luciana Pereira; Ximenes, Valdecir Farias [UNESP]; da Silva, Regildo Márcio Gonçalves [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP); Educational Foundation of the City of Assis
Objective: The present study investigated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction of Tribulus terrestris. It also developed a method of microencapsulation and evaluated antiglycation and antioxidant activities of crude dry extract and saponin fraction before and after microcapsule release. Methods: Antiglycation activity was determined by relative electrophoretic mobility (REM), free amino groups and inhibition of advanced glycation end-product (AGE) formation. Antioxidant activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ferric ion-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), nitric oxide (NO) and thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) tests. Microcapsules were prepared using maltodextrin as wall material and freeze-drying as encapsulation technique. Morphological characterization of microcapsules was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, and encapsulation efficiency and microcapsule release were determined by total saponins released. Antiglycation and antioxidant assays were performed using crude dry extract and saponin fraction of T. terrestris before and after release. Results: Saponin fraction showed an increase of 32.8% total saponins. High-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed the presence of saponins in the obtained fraction. Antiglycation evaluation by REM demonstrated that samples before and after release presented antiglycation activity similar to bovine serum albumin treated with aminoguanidine. Additionally, samples inhibited AGE formation, highlighting treatment with saponin fraction after release (89.89%). Antioxidant tests demonstrated antioxidant activity of the samples. Crude dry extract before encapsulation presented the highest activities in DPPH (92.00%) and TBARS (32.49%) assays. Saponin fraction before encapsulation in FRAP test (499 μmol Trolox equivalent per gram of dry sample) and NO test (15.13 μmol nitrite formed per gram of extract) presented the highest activities. Conclusion: This study presented antiglycation activity of crude dry extract and saponin fraction of T. terrestris, besides it demonstrated promising antioxidant properties. It also showed that the encapsulation method was efficient and maintained biological activity of bioactive compounds after microcapsule release. These results provide information for further studies on antidiabetic and antiaging potential, and data for new herbal medicine and food supplement formulations containing microcapsules with crude extract and/or saponin fraction of T. terrestris.

(2022-02-01) Palma, Mariana R. [UNESP]; Tebar, William R.; Vanderlei, Luiz Carlos M. [UNESP]; Fregonesi, Cristina E. P. T. [UNESP]; Ribeiro, Fernanda E. [UNESP]; Caldeira, Daniela T. [UNESP]; Ritti-Dias, Raphael M.; Christofaro, Diego G. D. [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP); Assis’s Municipal Institute of Higher Education; Universidade de São Paulo (USP); Universidade Nove de Julho
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the longitudinal influence of sitting time (ST) on cardiac autonomic modulation (CAM) and resting heart rate (RHR) in a 12-month cohort of 67 breast cancer survivors. Methods: CAM was assessed by heart rate variability with heart monitor which also assessed RHR, and ST was self-reported. The relationship between the variables was analyzed by the Pearson correlation and its magnitude by linear regression. Results: At baseline, no associations were found between ST and CAM or RHR. In the delta analyses, a decrease in RMSSD, SD1, and HF(ms2) was associated with sitting time. At 12-month follow-up, there was an increase in the ST and a decrease in RHR. ST was negatively related with CAM (RMSSD, PNN50, and SD1), but no association was observed between ST and RHR. Conclusion: The increase in ST was associated with worsening of CAM after 12-month follow-up. Promoting reduction in ST will be an important strategy against cardiovascular impairment in breast cancer survivors.

(2021-01-01) Reis, Andréa Dias [UNESP]; Lima, Luciana Sato de [UNESP]; Barros, Êmili Amice da Costa [UNESP]; Bertoli, Josefina [UNESP]; Gobbo, Luís Alberto [UNESP]; Silva, Camila Buonani da [UNESP]; Garcia, João Batista Santos; Freitas Júnior, Ismael Forte [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp); Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA)
BACKGROUND: Anticancer treatment gives rise to adverse effects such as increased pain and changes to body weight and menstrual cycles, with negative effects on activities of daily living. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of food orientation combined with supervised (face-to-face, FF) versus home-based (HB) aerobic training on lifestyle (food consumption and daily physical activity (PA) levels), body composition, metabolic profile and cardiorespiratory fitness, among breast cancer survivors. DESIGN AND SETTING: Clinical trial study (six months) conducted at a public university in Presidente Prudente, Brazil. METHODS: Twenty-three female breast cancer survivors (40-75 years old) were allocated to aerobic training groups, either FF or HB. Both groups were trained and received food orientation. They were evaluated through a dietary record, ergometric treadmill test and blood test and the Baecke questionnaire. RESULTS: After six months, both groups had reduced their lipid levels, total energy consumption and polyunsaturated fat intake, and had increased their PA levels and treadmill test durations. However, only the HB showed reduced carbohydrate percentage and increased folic acid; and only the FF showed reduced lipid, saturated fat and sodium levels, along with increased carbohydrate and protein levels. No differences in body composition or metabolic profile were found. CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrated the feasibility of HB aerobic training. In isolation, HB showed greater regulation of carbohydrate percentage and increased folic acid levels. Moreover, these breast cancer survivors presented improvements in food consumption, PA levels and cardiorespiratory fitness, while also maintaining their body composition and metabolic profile after the intervention, independent of the group.

(2019-11-01) Werneck, André O [UNESP]; Agostinete, Ricardo R. [UNESP]; Lima, Manoel Carlos S de [UNESP]; Turi-Lynch, Bruna C.; Fernandes, Romulo A. [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp); SC
OBJECTIVES: To analyze the association between physical activity during life and cardiovascular risk factors among adults. DESIGN: The sample was composed of 101 adults (59 men) between 30 and 50 years old, who were recruited from different gyms and from a University in Brasil. Participants were divided according to their engagement in sports in early life (self-reported) and current physical activity (pedometer) (sports participation during childhood/adolescence and currently active [n=26], sports participation during childhood/adolescence and currently inactive [n=26], and control [n=49]). Cardiovascular risk factors were measured, such as body fat (through DXA), HDL-C, triglycerides, HOMA index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and C-reactive protein. We adopted the covariates of chronological age, sex, alcohol consumption, tobacco, and body mass index. General estimating equations were used, with p<0.05. RESULTS: After the adjustments of the final model, individuals engaged in sports during childhood and adolescence and inactive during adulthood presented lower body fat, when compared to participants persistently inactive (p<0.001). Participants persistently active presented lower body fat (p<0.001) and lower c-reactive protein (p=0.010) when compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Early sports participation was associated with reduced body fat, and being physically active throughout life was associated with reduced body fat and C-reactive protein.

TELETANDEM AS THIRD SPACE IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER DEVELOPMENT
(Univ Estadual Campinas, Fac Educacao, 2020-07-01) Lopes Messias, Rozana Aparecida [UNESP]; Telles, Joao Antonio [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Teletandem enables future teachers of foreign languages the intercultural contact with a foreigner. In this virtual synchronous space via webcam, a person teaches his/her own language, or learns the mother tongue or language of competence of his/her teletandem partner. In this article, we argue (a) that the teletandem can be considered as a third space or a hybrid technological context; and (b) that, in addition to developing oral competence in the target language, this context can provoke future teachers' reflections on the pedagogy of foreign languages. We argue that both characteristics facilitate the professional development of future language teachers. We aim to investigate: (a) how this online intercultural contact mobilizes the commitment of the future foreign language teacher with his/her own professional training, and (b) how mediation activities (that follow the teletandem interactions) function as triggers of reflective processes on teaching and on learning foreign languages. The study was based on a teletandem partnership between a Brazilian and a Mexican university. We adopted a critical qualitative approach to the analyses of audio-recordings of group mediation sessions in which future Portuguese/Spanish teachers participated. The results of the analyses describe the characteristics of the online intercultural contact via teletandem. Although well articulated by the teacher educator, they bring the potential of theorizing and of critical observation of the students' own actions as teachers of foreign languages who are engaged in the process of their professional development.

THE POST-GRADUATION SCORTS SENSU IN BRAZIL: A STUDY FROM LEGAL DOCUMENTS
(Univ Metodista Piracicaba-unimep, 2020-05-01) Bueno da Silva, Nathalia Delgado [UNESP]; Brandao, Carlos da Fonseca [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The present study aims to identify the directions for post-graduation, stricto sensu, in Brazil over the years. This level of education emerged in the country in a regulated manner in the 1960s, and is now guaranteed as a teaching system, with representation and academic status in front of the post-graduate lato sensu. The study is of a bibliographic and documentary nature, based on Opinion n. 977 of December 3, 1965 and the National Graduate Plans (PNPG), which in a directive way interfered so that this level of education was consolidated. The documents reflect the pretensions and needs of the era in which they encompass, being articulated to the social, political and economic context. This reflection can be verified because there is linearity in the postgraduate in certain cycles, as its legal initiation and the need to establish formal guidelines to unify the programs; later, the intentions to measure the quality of the expansion, and thus, the maintenance of a System, that today is the subject of several discussions, whether about its evaluation, or about its organization and conjuncture.

CULTURAL INDUSTRY, CURRICULUM AND TEACHER TRAINING: THE ETHICAL DIMENSION AS ARTICULATOR IN THE PEDAGOGICAL PROCESS
(Univ Estadual Paulista-unesp, Fac Ciencias Letras Assis, 2019-12-01) Mantovani Leite, Sandra Regina; Carvalho, Alonso Bezerra de [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL); Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
In this article we present and discuss the value of the ethical dimension present as articulator in the organization of pedagogical work. Whereas Ethics is disfigured by the events and understandings of today's society, in which teachers hide behind masks as proletarians of unnecessary knowledge and useless to capital, analyze the ethical dimension and its importance for the process and educational practice presents itself as an appreciation of the human being and all its manifestations. Understanding the School as a space for interactions, the curriculum becomes a cultural artifact for the teacher to achieve his goal with a humanizing education that aims at the emancipation of the human being.

The basic education in Sweden and Brazil: Some similarities and differences
(2019-01-01) Brandão, Carlos da Fonseca [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
This article proposes to analyze the basic education system of Sweden and to compare it with the basic education system of Brazil. We consider it relevant to compare the two systems of Basic Education, despite the significant differences between the two countries (culture, history, size, population density, etc.), since the quality indicators of basic education in Sweden are considerably better than Brazilians. Our objective is to show the main similarities and differences between the two systems of Basic Education. In order to do so, we first described the structure and functioning of the Swedish Basic Education system, little known to us Brazilians, so that, in our conclusions, we highlight the main similarities and differences between them. The methodology adopted was qualitative exploratory research, with a review of the literature of authors who work with comparative studies in the educational area.

Teaching history and public history: Historical knowledge and its social function
(2018-01-01) Alves, Ronaldo Cardoso [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
This article aims to discuss the relationship between historical learning and its public function in society. Starting from the premise that there is a clash between different historical cultures existing in contemporary Brazilian society, the text discusses the importance that historical science and its cognitive repertoire have for the formation of historical thought, whether in the academic sphere or in the context of basic education, because it provides important knowledge tools so that teachers and students can reflect, autonomously, about their own history and the history of the society in which they are inserted. In this sense, the challenge of teaching history is to continue to provide (and deepen) the scientific means to enable students to (re) know these different narratives, through the diversity of appropriate cultural production as a historical source, with a view to the construction and development of historical thought, as well as of its public function of strengthening democracy, citizenship, critical autonomy, respect and acceptance of otherness, and finally, the full humanization of society.
