dc.description.abstractAs empresas industriais impactam não somente o meio ambiente, mas também diversas dimensões da vida humana. Disparidade de riqueza, esgotamento dos recursos naturais e emissão de poluentes são apenas alguns dos exemplos de impactos negativos, de difícil recuperação/reversão resultantes da atividade industrial. É nesse contexto que as práticas de desenvolvimento sustentável ganham força no cenário industrial em função de aliar a proteção do meio ambiente e do ser humano ao ganho de diferencial competitivo das empresas, aumentando, portanto, sua probabilidade de sobrevivência a longo prazo. O alinhamento da sustentabilidade com os sistemas de gestão integrados (SGIs) vem sendo, ainda que timidamente, abordado na literatura científica como uma alternativa viável para introduzir ações socioambientais efetivamente em prática nas organizações. Com base nisso, o principal objetivo desta pesquisa é propor, à luz da teoria científica e com base em 7 estudos de caso, diretrizes para alinhamento da sustentabilidade com os SGIs em empresas industriais. A realização desta pesquisa está se dando em cinco etapas principais: 1) Desenvolvimento do referencial teórico, 2) Sistematização dos pilares Sustentabilidade Empresarial (SE) e do SGI; 3) Realização de 2 estudos de caso no Brasil, 2 em Portugal e 3 na Espanha, 4) Formulação das diretrizes e 5) Conclusão e redação final da tese. O objetivo principal foi alcançado por meio da identificação de elementos sinérgicos e dissonantes que podem impactar positivamente ou negativamente no alinhamento da sustentabilidade com o SGI. Tais elementos foram identificados na literatura e verificados nos estudos de caso, servindo como base para proposição das diretrizes para alinhamento da sustentabilidade com o SGI. Este trabalho trouxe como contribuição científica a atualização do bloco de conhecimento sobre as contribuições do SGI para a sustentabilidade e vice-versa, trazendo algumas validações de conhecimentos de artigos científicos no contexto real de empresas industriais, e acréscimos e refinamentos ao estado da arte sobre o tema. Além disso, destaca-se a contribuição aplicada dos resultados, que proporcionarão aos gestores um arcabouço para intervir nas organizações com modificações estruturais que as tornem mais verdes, socialmente adequadas e mais rentáveis, promovendo assim o alcance dos objetivos globais de desenvolvimento sustentável propostos na Agenda 2030.pt
dc.description.abstractIndustrial companies impact not only the environment, but also in different dimensions of human life. Wealth gap, depletion of natural resources, pollutant emissions, improper working conditions are just some examples of the negative impacts from industrial activity. In this context, sustainable development practices are gaining strength in the industrial scenario in terms of combining the protection of the environment and the human being with gain of competitive advantage on the market, increasing therefore its long-term survival probability. The alignment of sustainability with the integrated management systems (IMSs) has been, albeit timidly, approached in the scientific literature as a viable alternative to introduce socio-environmental actions effectively in organizations. Based on this, the main objective of this research is to propose, in light of scientific theory and based on 7 case studies, guidelines for aligning sustainability with IMS in industrial companies. The research accomplishment has followed five main steps: 1) Development of the theoretical framework, 2) Systematization of the pillars of IMS and Corporate Sustainability (CS); 3) Conduction of 2 case studies in Brazil, 2 in Portugal and 3 in Spain, 4) Formulation of the guidelines, and 5) Conclusion and final draft of the thesis. The systematization of the pillars and elements of CS and IMS represents a dialogue towards unifying a starting point for researchers and practitioners in their respective fields. The crossing of the CS principles with those of the IMS made it possible to identify the relationships (synergies and dissonances) between both themes. The synergistic and dissonant elements that can positively or negatively impact the alignment of CS with the IMS served as the basis for proposing the guidelines to build a bridge for CS development from the IMS. This work brought as a scientific contribution the upgrade of the block of knowledge on the contributions of IMS to CS and vice-versa, bringing some validation of knowledge from scientific articles in the real context of industrial companies, and additions and refinements to the state of the art on the subject. In addition, the applied contribution of the results stands out, which will provide managers with a framework to intervene in organizations with structural modifications that will make them greener, socially appropriate and more profitable, thus promoting the achievement of the global goals of sustainable development proposed in Agenda 2030.pt
