Sobre a evasão dos estudantes em um curso de Física: motivos que justificam a permanência

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como intuito estudar o fenômeno da evasão do curso de Física da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho - Unesp, câmpus de Bauru, que oferece as modalidades Licenciatura e Bacharelado. Diferentemente de outros estudos sobre a evasão, este visa identificar e analisar quais são os fatores que levam os estudantes a permanecerem e, eventualmente, concluir o curso. A evasão é acarretada por diversos fatores, desde a realidade socioeconômica dos estudantes que evadem até mesmo as políticas acadêmicas desenvolvidas no curso e na universidade. Devemos considerar o fenômeno da evasão como dependente de situações que se repetem sistematicamente, portanto passíveis de serem estudadas e compreendidas, de modo a possibilitar desenvolver estratégias de prevenção e de intervenção para mitigar o problema da saída precoce dos alunos da universidade. Toda a fundamentação do trabalho está baseada em referenciais sobre o tema que auxiliaram na interpretação dos dados coletados; também foram utilizados como referência, trabalhos que auxiliaram na preparação do instrumento de investigação e na sua aplicação. O roteiro de entrevista utilizado tem como principal foco, apurar a percepção do entrevistado sobre a sua permanência no curso. Os dados foram coletados através de entrevistas semiestruturadas, com dois ex-alunos que concluíram o curso e outros quatro que continuam matriculados nos anos finais, isto é, dois no terceiro e dois no quarto e último ano. A metodologia utilizada para analisar os dados coletados é baseada na análise de conteúdo. Os resultados obtidos foram comparados com os modelos de Vincent Tinto e outros estudos sobre a permanência e evasão no ensino superior, os dados coletados corroboram com esses referenciais utilizados, ao final, são apresentadas algumas propostas que poderão contribuir para a redução dos índices de evasão no referido curso.

The present work aims to study the phenomenon of students dropout in the Physics course at the São Paulo State University “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” at campus of Bauru, which offers both a Physics teachers education and a Bachelor's degree program. Unlike other studies on dropout, this one aims to identify and analyze the factors that lead students to remain in and eventually complete the course. Dropout is caused by various factors, ranging from the socioeconomic reality of the students who abandon the course to the academic policies developed within the course and the university. The phenomenon of dropout should be considered as dependent on situations that systematically repeat themselves, which can be studied and understood in order to develop prevention and intervention strategies to mitigate the problem of early student departure from the university. The work is based on bibliographic references about the theme that help in the interpretation of the collected data; work on surveying and analyzing qualitative data is also used as a reference. The used interview script primarily focuses on the purpose of finding the respondent's perception of their permanence in the course. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with two former students who completed the course and four others who are still enrolled in the final years, that is, two in the third and two in the fourth and final year. The methodology used to analyze the collected data is based on content analysis. The results obtained were compared with the models of Vincent Tinto and other studies on permanence and dropout in higher education.The obtained results agree used references, at the end, some proposals are presented that may contribute to the reduction of dropout rates in that course.
