(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2013) Leme, Luan Beloto [UNESP]; Rodrigues, Josias [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)

In the pre-slaughter management of pigs there are stressors, which depending on the duration or severity, are able to alter the quality of meat. One of the factors considered critical to the welfare is the fasting period in the farm. This practice is fundamental and proven relevance in the production chain. Besides the effects on meat quality and welfare of pigs, fasting is among the main factors responsible for the incidence of skin lesions, can significantly influence the incidence of esophagogastric ulcers and is also important to avoid any contamination of carcasses by gastrointestinal contents. When fasting is done right, it has a positive impact on welfare, meat quality and conditions of welfare during the pre-slaughter management of pigs

    Pênfigo Foliáceo em cães
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2011) Zanholo, Amanda Borges [UNESP]; Paes, Antonio Carlos [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Pemphigus complex in animals is considered rare, but not so when compared with the occurrence of other autoimmune diseases. Pemphigus Foliaceus in dogs is the most common varieties of pemphigus and is characterized clinically by intraepidermal pustules, starting on the face and ears, pads, groin, and may become multifocal or generalized in six months. As the pustules are very fragile, the lesions usually found are secondary, which may range from dry to collarettes epidermal crusting, and nasal depigmentation. The diagnosis is difficult because presents sintomatology similar to other diseases and laboratory diagnosis more precise through the histopathological examination of pustules integrate (biopsy), which are rarely found. The treatment, although of the individual treatment regimen, is based on treating opportunistic diseases and immunosuppressing the animal in order to decrease the production of autoantibodies. The drugs of choice depend on the clinical presentation, however is usually oral prednisone and azathioprine in the dog and combined immunosuppressive therapy. Should make use daily until the disease is inactive and gradually decrease the dose until have the minimum effective dose, preferably on alternate days for the remission of the disease. Prognosis of pemphigus varies according to disease stage and treatment established. Pemphigus foliaceus is less serious nonetheless might be fatal without treatment

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2009) Zoca, Sara Menegatti [UNESP]; Alvarenga, Marco Antonio [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The success in implementing an embryo transfer program derives from many factors. The embryo recovery rate is one of the most important factors, and allows the transfer to the recipient mare. This rate comes from a group of elements such as donor´s characteristics, collection date, reproductive management, semen quality, technician skill. Mainly because of the great importance of this direct interference on the results of an embryo recovery program, this study aimed to review the factors involved in embryo recovery rates in donor mares during an embryo transfer, suggesting some ways of improving these results

    Métodos diagnóstico de Hiperadrenocorticismo canina
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2010) Xella, Cristina Leite [UNESP]; Takahira, Regina Kiomi [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The Hyperadrenocorticism is a disease that occur in dogs between mead to old age, is associated with the higher level of glucocorticoid that result in a corporal reaction. To make a diagnostic of this disease is necessary have a good history and physical examination, the principals complains of the proprietary are polyuria, polydipsia and polyphagia, in some times abdominal enlargement and lethargy. In the physical examination is observed this abdominal enlargement, hepatomegaly, alopecia, in some cases pyoderma and difficult respiratory. From this documents is possible determinate the differential diagnostics and with the tests find the diagnostic of the disease that the animal have. The base methods are hemogram, biochemical, urinalysis, radiographs and ultrasonography it’s possible do tomography and magnetic resonance too. There are confirmation methods too, they are very important, because the others not have documents necessary for the final diagnostic. Those are Urine cortisol to creatinine ratio, dexamethasone suppression test with high dose or low dose and ACTH stimulation test. Despite those tests have high sensibility and specificity, they can result in false positive or false negative, this is one of the causes to do the base methods and together make the veterinary doctor find the solution of the diagnostic and do the adequate treatment

The equine anesthesia is proven to be a high risk procedure, for both patient and anesthetist, compared to other animal species. In these conditions, a good anesthetic protocol that can deliver sedation, making access and manipulation easier, analgesia fair enough to realize cirurgical procedures, and minimal physiologic changes would be ideal. Since there aren’t any drugs suporting all these qualities, the Neuroleptoanalgesic Associations show themselves as a valuable technique to provide anesthetic quality and safety, possibly diminishing our drug of choice’s doses, therefore offering less fisiological changes and easier monetary access in some cases. This paper objective was to list all these associations found in literature, evaluating their advantages and practical applications

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2009) Vincenzi, Mariana [UNESP]; Goncalves, Roberto Calderon [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
There are cardiopathies that acometem the dogs, being able this being congenital or acquired and lately have grown the number of cases due to the increase of the life expectancy of these animals becoming each time more necessary prevention methods. In recent years innumerable research is being carried through to understand the influence of the fish oil in the cardiopathies. The fish oil ingestion, Omega 3, has shown beneficial effect in the prevention of cardiovascular illnesses in such a way in the men as in the animals. Such effect this related to the presence of acid greasy polyunsaturateds n-3, mainly acid the eicosapentaenóico (EPA) and acid the docosahexaenóico (DHA). These substances can be found in foods as marine cold water fish (salmon, tuna, sardine and Trout), hemp seeds and soy. The present study, therefore, it has as objective to carry through an update on the use of the fish oil in the treatment of cardiopathies in dogs

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2011) Vieira, Pedro Paulo Benyunes [UNESP]; Bicudo, Sony Dimas [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Currently, Brazil has one of the largest cattle herds worldwide. In order to keep that milk and meat were introduced reproductive biotechnologies such as artificial insemination, embryo transfer and in vitro fertilization. In certain situations the technique may have undesired effect, for example, the production of calve calves due to the very large increase in the gestation period when performed in vitro fertilization. To avoid this problem we perform the induction of labor in order to prevent the product is longer the womb. This induction can also be made in case of diseases that compromise the life of the mother, twin pregnancy an abnormal size calf. The administration of short acting steroids, prostaglandins, association of short acting steroids and prostaglandins and association of short acting steroids, prostaglandins and long-acting corticosteroids are some of the possibilities of induction

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2011) Vendruscolo, Cynthia do Prado [UNESP]; Alves, Ana Liz Garcia [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Articular cartilage is the structure that coats the bone ends in regions where two bones are articulated, allowing movement. It has inefficient intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms of repair, usually resulting in fibrocartilage formation after injury. Such repair have lower strength, stiffness and usability features when compared to hyaline cartilage. The mesenchymal stem cells have the potential to regenerate tissue without the production of scar, and because of this feature it is well studied. But to have its maximum chondrogenic potential, it is necessary to use scaffolds and growth factors. Biomaterials play the role of scaffold for the cells allowing them to become attached, grow and produce extracellular matrix, leading to formation of repair with hyaline cartilage. In this sense, the purpose of this study is to provide information on the various studies using cell therapy and / or biomaterials to produce hyaline cartilage

Efeito do ácido tânico purificado (tanino) sobre o crescimento in vitro de isolados de Pythium insidiosum
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2011) Trolezi, Rodrigo [UNESP]; Takahira, Regina Kiomi [UNESP]; Bosco, Sandra de Moraes Gimenes [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Pythiosis is caused by the oomycetous Pythium insidiosum and affect domestic and wild animals and man. The presence of water and vegetal material is fundamental for its life cycle in nature. The biflagellate zoospore are the infective form of this pathogen. The lesions are generally of granulomatous aspect, which frequently may be contaminated by secondary bacterial infection in skin and subcutaneous tissue. Dissemination to systemic tissues may also occur and it may be due to the spread of the pathogen from cutaneous lesions, as well as a primary source of infection. Clinical signs depend on the affected tissue. Diagnosis of pythiosis is based on the clinical manifestations, histopathological sections and culture of the pathogen. Serological tests may also be employed and more recently molecular biology has been introduced as a sensitive, specific and a rapid method for conclusive diagnosis. Treatment is often difficult and extensive surgery procedures are required, however, depending on the anatomic region and size of the lesion, such procedure is unfeasible and relapses are frequent. Due to the climate changes, which has contributed to increase the incidence of pythiosis, it is necessary the search for new therapeutic protocols

    Choque
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2011) Trentini, Marcela de Camargo [UNESP]; Hussni, Carlos Alberto [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The shock, now known as a clinical syndrome due to a systemic breakdown in tissue perfusion leading to cellular hypoxia, metabolic changes and consequently organ dysfunction, is a condition that affects both humans and animals and should be classified as an emergency. For its dynamic course the therapy becomes a challenge, all the time time spared in diagnosis and treatment is essential to save the patient's life, so knowledge of its physiopathology can become of great value, and in order to clarify it better, shock has been divided didactically into: cardiogenic, hypovolemic, distributive, and obstructive, so the best approach may be chosen to this situation, noting that the therapy in general is the sum of several procedures that aims to compensate for the animal so that the underlying cause of shock may be treated

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2010) Toyofuku, Larissa [UNESP]; Luna, Stélio Pacca Loureiro [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Nowadays, in any area that acts within the veterinary medicine, we talk a lot of specialists. Specialists in neurology, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, finally, more specialized in a subject, better is the veterinarian. However, on one hand to deepen the knowledge helped in the discovery of new diagnostics and treatments, secondly, a bit lost sight of the patient as a whole. Traditional Chinese medicine, one of whose branches is acupuncture, is aimed at exactly this approach to be fully alive, where all body is interconnected and the disease is not seen as the imbalance of one system, but, as the imbalance between our being and the environment external. Acupuncture is an alternative in the treatment of many diseases, among them Cauda Equina Syndrome, and consists of stimulating specific points on the body surface, which help the body return to its natural harmony. A Cauda Equina Syndrome is a frame subsequent to a neuromuscular spinal cord at the level of the spinal canal of the lower lumbar spine and sacral, whose treatment is almost always surgical. This study aims to show the relevance of acupuncture treatment in this condition and report the importance of the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine nowadays, even when their arms are not in the treatment of choice

Pressão arterial em cães: uma revisão
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2011) Tebaldi, Mariana [UNESP]; Lourenço, Maria Lucia Gomes [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The evaluation of blood pressure is an essential tool for veterinarian clinical practice and for monitoring anesthetized patients or patients in intensive care, because of its usefulness in diagnostics, treatment and monitoring of several diseases. Apart from the pathological factor, the blood pressure also suffers the influence of different variables, such as age, breed, gender, temperament (anxiety and stress especially during the treatment, “white coat syndrome”), disease state, physical activity and, with lower intensity, animal’s diet. One of the main indications of the evaluation of blood pressure is the observation of clinical changes resulting from hypertension in animals, which one is characterized by lesions in the nervous and cardiovascular systems, kidneys and eyes. Not least important, the evaluation of blood pressure is also essential in hypotensive states, which represent an imminent risk of death. The techniques used in measuring blood pressure correspond to invasive forms (direct) or non invasive (indirect), whose correlation has been the subject of study and improvement within the small animal clinic. Thus, the purpose of this review is emphasize the importance of measuring blood pressure within the veterinary clinic routine, studying the influence of variables associated or not with elevated blood pressure, comparing the different methods used to obtain the blood pressure

Principais aspectos cirúrgicos da urolitíase em cães
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2009) Tanaka, Aline Shioya [UNESP]; Brandão, Claudia Valeria Seullner [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Urolithiasis occurs with relatively frequency among the diseases that affect the urinary tract of dogs. It`s fundamental that samples of the uroliths are sent for analysis, because, in agreement with the mineral composition of the urolith and also its location, the choice is made between the surgical treatment or the clinical dissolution. Cystotomy is the surgical technique more accomplished in the bladder of small animals, due to its simplicity, when in comparison with other procedures for removal of calculi. With the aid of lithotripsy and endoscopy, the surgical interventions in the urinary treatment tend to be less and less invasive, minimizing the risks of subsequent complications. Chances of recurrence of the urolithiasis are usually larger in patients submitted to the surgical intervention. Besides, the time elapsed among regressive episodes is larger after the clinical dissolution
