Abstract
Abstract (english)
In this master’s thesis, we study linear recurrences, focusing on both homogeneous and non-homogeneous cases. The primary objective is to present and prove theorems that facilitate the resolution of such recurrences, avoiding approaches based purely on inspection. The analysis covers linear recurrences of first and second order. Throughout the work, we also highlight several classical sequences defined by recurrences, such as the Fibonacci, Lucas, Pell sequences, and the sequence associated with the Tower of Hanoi problem, illustrating the application of the developed methods. Moreover, we conduct a comparative analysis between linear recurrences and linear ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients, emphasizing the equivalence of their operators and characteristic equations. In this sense, the thesis not only provides tools for solving linear recurrences but also offers an integrated understanding of their structure and their relationship with the theory of differential equations.
