Abstract

Abstract (portuguese)

A qualidade dos artigos foi medida utilizando o Apêndice I/H publicado pelo National Institute for Care and Excellence (NICE).

Abstract (english)

Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) is associated with lymph node involvement in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) and has been shown to affect survival. The aim of this study was to assess the current literature on the availability of biomarkers that could predict the development of LV in patients with HNSCC, allowing clinicians to anticipate the likely course of the disease. A systematic review was conducted on Google Scholar, Scopus, Medline/Pubmed, and Ovid SP. Articles were reviewed by two independent reviewers using inclusion criterias. The quality of the papers was measured using the Appendix I/H published by the National Institute for Care and Excellence (NICE). A total of 982 articles were identified from the databases in the initial search and 4 of them were included in the study after qualitative assessment. Claudin 1 (P = 0.037), Claudin 7 (P = .023), Mucin-like glycoprotein DF3/MUC1 (P = .0007 for 3-years survival rate and P = .002 for 5-years survival rate) and Interleukin 17 (p = 0.002) were found to be linked with lymphovascular invasion. The results show the availability of biomarkers that could help predict the tumor’s aggressiveness and assist the TNM staging system. Further studies are needed to confirm their power to detect changes in HNSCC outcomes.
